The Boys Season 5 Reveals How Kimiko Can Finally Talk

In Season 5 of The Boys, Kimiko, who hadn’t spoken full sentences for four seasons, finally regained her voice. Viewers first noticed hints of her ability returning at the end of Season 4, and now she’s able to speak normally. Fans are curious about how this happened and what allowed her to regain her speech.

How Kimiko is able to talk in The Boys Season 5 revealed

Kimiko’s inability to speak wasn’t a physical problem, but a mental one. As we learned in earlier seasons, she had a difficult childhood and was forced to undergo training where anyone who cried out first was killed. This led her to develop strong mental defenses that prevented her from speaking.

She finally broke free of her mental block in the Season 4 finale, when she screamed for Frenchie.

I was so glad to hear that Kimiko’s been working on herself after everything that happened in Season 4! They explained in the new season that after her mental barrier finally came down, she really threw herself into getting better. She did speech therapy, and honestly, she got super into TikTok – which is awesome! Plus, she started regular therapy, and it’s clearly making a huge difference in helping her overcome those mental blocks. It’s just really heartwarming to see her progress.

With all of this combined, Kimiko can now speak.

Showrunner Eric Kripke shared that it was thrilling when Kimiko, a character who hadn’t spoken for four seasons, finally got to use her voice. It required a bit of technical work – they had to wire her with a microphone for the first time. Kripke noted it was surprisingly difficult to figure out how her voice should sound, given how well audiences knew the character after four seasons of silence, and how different she now was with the ability to speak (as reported by Variety).

He admitted it was stressful for both of them to attempt something so different this late in the process, but praised her performance. He particularly appreciates her honesty and directness, suggesting she doesn’t need to hold back. He joked about her interactions with Frenchie, wondering what she was really saying, since Frenchie always translated her words into something more polite. Hearing her speak completely unfiltered was, he said, a lot of fun.

The first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 are now streaming on Prime Video.
