At the EE BAFTA Film Awards Nominees‘ party held at The National Gallery in London on Saturday, Adrien Brody and his girlfriend Georgina Chapman showed affectionate gestures towards each other.

The EE BAFTA 2025 Awards is back for a spectacular evening filled with entertainment, honoring the outstanding films of the year and the brilliant minds behind their creation.

A fresh innovation has been implemented in the Outstanding British Film category, which now involves a revised method for voting.

In the Thriller Conclave, a total of 12 nominations were earned across all categories, making it the record-holder. Meanwhile, Emilia Perez garnered 11 nominations, and The Brutalist received nine.

After returning to its homeland, Conclave has received double the number of nominations at this year’s BAFTAs compared to what it received at the Golden Globes held in Los Angeles last month.

In a more simplified manner: The gripping movie featuring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini revolves around a covert and high-pressure election for a new Pope. Here, power struggles, personal ambitions, and hidden truths intertwine among competing cardinals in a battle of wits.

The contender has surpassed Emilia Perez, the Spanish drama that garnered the most Golden Globe awards (10), by receiving 11 nominations for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

Once more, Gladiator 2 has been overlooked by the judging panel in award ceremonies, with neither the film nor its principal actor, the 28-year-old Irish star Paul Mescal, being recognized for the Best Film and Best Actor categories at BAFTA.

62-year-old Demi Moore, who received her inaugural acting award at the Globes for Substance, has now been nominated in the Lead Actress category alongside Cynthia Erivo, aged 38, known for her role in Wicked, and 30-year-old Saoirse Ronan, for The Outrun.

Movie business experts predict that Ghost’s actress getting on the BAFTA shortlist could significantly boost her chances of winning an Oscar for the first time.

In other BAFTA nominations, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are set to compete against each other in the category of Best Supporting Actor. Their respective roles in “A Real Pain” and the Trump biopic titled “The Apprentice” have earned them this recognition.

In 2024, Marisa Abela is at the forefront of the contenders for the EE BAFTA Rising Star Award due to her exceptional performance as Amy Winehouse in the movie “Back To Black.

The list that was recently revealed includes Marisa, Jharrel Jerome, David Jonsson from “Alien: Romulus”, Mikey Madison from “Anora”, and Nabhaan Rizwan from “In Camera”.

Sara Putt, the chairperson of BAFTA, expressed to the Press Association news agency that this year’s BAFTA nominations showcase an outstanding diversity.

She noted: “Moreover, if you consider the top 10 movies under ‘Best Film’, it seems that there are around six distinct movie genres represented within them.

You have a variety of genres at your disposal: science fiction, comedy, horror, drama, and musicals. Notably, horror films such as ‘Nosferatu’, ‘The Substance’, and ‘Heretic’ are even being recognized with nominations.

Did you notice the collection of movies here? They range from ‘Wicked’ to ‘Kneecap’, and it’s really impressive how diverse and rich the selection is. It’s quite thrilling!”

David Tennant will take to the stage to host the BAFTAs for a second year in a row. 

The actor, 53, first hosted the awards show last year, taking over from Richard E Grant.

Without a doubt, he’ll showcase his charm and wit after a highly praised initial performance that captivated more than 3.8 million home viewers.

Over 20 million times, fans tuned into highlights from the event on various social media platforms.

This year, the Princess of Wales is planning an impressive return to her royal duties with a stunning appearance at the upcoming awards event.

A source mentioned that BAFTA is making a significant effort to ensure Kate’s attendance, understanding that her appearance would generate global excitement and anticipation.

Last year, Kate was unable to attend the awards due to the fact that she had already disclosed on March 22 via a video message that she was battling cancer. On the same night, Prince William graced the red carpet without a companion during the Baftas.

The 2025 EE Bafta Film Awards will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 7pm on Sunday February 16.
