Gaby Roslin Opens Up About Heartbreaking Grief After Losing Her Parents

Gabby Roslin has shared insights on dealing with her sorrow after losing her parents during her mid-thirties.

In the year 1999, Jackie, the mother of the BBC Radio DJ, passed away at the age of 62 due to lung cancer caused by smoking. Soon afterwards, her father, Clive, suffered a stroke and also died.

60-year-old Gaby expressed that even three decades later, the double tragedy continues to cause her profound sorrow. She likened this feeling to a sudden blow to her abdomen.

The mother of two expressed deep sadness because Jackie was unable to meet her daughters: Libbi-Jack (age 23) from her previous marriage to musician Colin Peel, and Amelie (age 17), who she has with her spouse of 12 years, David Osman.

She remembered telling OK! magazine that there had been something on the radio this morning, and it mentioned someone saying their children had never had an opportunity to meet their grandmother.

28 years have passed since my mother’s passing, and the pain still strikes me deeply, right in the core. Whenever I console others who have lost someone, I remind them that there are no set rules for grieving. And now, 28 years later, it feels as if someone just punched me in the gut.

Gabby maintains Jackie’s legacy by frequently discussing her with her kids and placing pictures of her throughout their home.

The television host expressed her hope that Jackie would have had the opportunity to meet her grandchildren. She reminisced about her mother’s promise to watch over them every week, allowing her daughter and spouse to enjoy a night out together.

You tend to keep these thoughts deep within you, and sometimes unexpectedly, they resurface at the forefront of your consciousness,” she explained.

In a heartfelt discussion back in 2023, Gaby, the current Saturday host of her own Magic Radio program, opened up about the difficult passing of her mother that she found particularly distressing.

After my mother passed away, she shared with The Sun that she had made a decision: “From now on, I won’t feel the need to apologize for finding happiness again, as life is simply too valuable.

On the very same day when Dad, Clive (aged 89), received a clean bill of health after battling bowel cancer, my mother tragically passed away due to lung cancer. This period was incredibly difficult for us all.

Gaby shared that a significant lesson she learned during a challenging time was understanding the value of taking care of oneself and making the best out of life.

I don’t have a clue when this will all be over, but I want to enjoy each second to the fullest. At the same time, I hope others can experience that joy too – honestly, I do.

Previously, Gabby shared that her friend Paul O’Grady had passed away and expressed feelings suggesting he might be visiting her as a spirit.

In March 2023, at the age of 67, Paul passed away due to heart rhythm issues. His spouse, André Portasio, along with their daughter Sharon, are left behind to remember him.

In the 1970s, a comedian developed a drag character named Lily Savage. This persona, created in 1978, propelled him to fame during the Nineties and cemented his popularity within the LGBTQ community beforehand.

According to The Daily Star, Gaby disclosed that they’ve maintained their connection. She expressed, “I’ve just landed a new project. In the past, when seeking advice on new projects, I would often reach out to him, affectionately referring to him as Savage. So, I decided to give him a call.

Initially, there was a fleeting moment when I hesitated, thinking, “Oh dear, I can’t.” However, I recognized that something or someone was persistently nudging me, making me feel uneasy.

She added: ‘He frequently threatened that he’d return as a ghost, watching over us all.’

He could understand the depth of our affection for him since after each conversation, I’d often express, “Wow, I truly adore you,” to which he’d respond, “I appreciate that too, now let me be.

Upon hearing the unfortunate news about Paul, Gabby turned to Instagram to post a picture of him, expressing her feelings with these words: “It’s hard to believe the morning brought such distressing news. Paul, you were truly unique, and there will never be another quite like you. The joy we shared together was immense.

Our conversations continued for quite some time, and I’m confident that he’s currently engaged in lively discussions, bringing humor and amusement to those around him.

Gazing at this charming picture of him with Buster brings a smile to my face, and I’m confident that he would appreciate our smiles as we remember him and honor his life.

I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences to Andre, Sharon, and their entire family. He was courageous, intelligent, mischievous, and a cherished, kind-hearted companion.

‘Loaded with countless joyful, zany moments from our time together, goodnight my dearest Savage. You will always be cherished #restinpeacepaulo grady.’

This version maintains the original’s sentiment and emotional tone while using more straightforward language that is easier to read for a wider audience. It also corrects a minor spelling mistake in the hashtag.
