Bucky Barnes Has a Surprising New Gig in Captain America: Brave New World

In an unexpected twist within the narrative of “Captain America: Brave New World,” it’s revealed that Bucky Barnes, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, is seeking a seat in Congress. This development comes as quite a surprise for the Winter Soldier, who was once manipulated by Nazis and holds responsibility for numerous deaths, including the assassination of Tony Stark’s parents. After all, a checkered past doesn’t always prevent someone from running for political office in the United States.

Previously, Bucky Barnes found himself in a position of supporting Sam Wilson, now Captain America, in the series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” He was attempting to atone for past mistakes. After Steve Rogers, his friend, traveled back in time through Avengers: Endgame, leaving Bucky with an uncertain future regarding what direction his life would take.

It’s hardly unexpected that a shrewd political figure might encourage Bucky to seek office, given his Kennedy-esque charm, endearing vintage moniker, and invincibility thanks to his superhuman strength and indestructible Vibranium limb, making him virtually indestructible by assassination attempts. Moreover, his connections to the wealthy, secretive nation of Wakanda would be highly desirable for any power-hungry individual. His military background may have its flaws, but his extensive experience, at over a century old, is undeniable. In essence, he’s the ultimate candidate.

There had been whispers within the fan community that Bucky could take on a new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a conversation at San Diego Comic-Con last year, it seemed Wyatt Russell may have accidentally revealed that Bucky now holds the position of a congressman. Since then, in the series “Brave New World,” he appears to be moving towards this role.

It’s challenging to align Bucky swearing an oath of office with his actions portrayed in the Thunderbolts trailer, where he appears alongside questionable characters like Yelena (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour) from Black Widow, and John Walker (Russell) from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. In the upcoming movie, which will be released in May, this team seems to resemble a low-budget version of the Avengers, with Bucky demonstrating destructive behavior such as blasting cars off the road with missiles. This isn’t exactly the image one would expect from a politician running for office, especially after the President in Brave New World transformed into the Hulk and wrecked some cherished cherry blossoms.

What method will Bucky use to clarify this matter for his voters? We’ll only discover the answer in May.
