The Odyssey praised as an “absolute masterpiece” that’s ‘unlike anything you’ve seen before’

Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, is almost here. Although critics haven’t had a chance to view it yet, Tom Holland has seen it and is able to share his thoughts.

The actor saw an early version of the adaptation of the ancient Greek story and believes audiences will be amazed by it.

He told GQ it was a true masterpiece, and that he wasn’t going to let his own opinion influence that assessment.

“Chris Nolan’s movie is fantastic. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before.

Watching that movie made me wonder about the filmmaking process – it’s been a long time since I was so curious about how they actually pulled off certain scenes.

We’ve gotten so used to incredible visual effects in movies and on TV that we generally assume talented artists and technicians are creating them using computers.

“But Chris is obviously trying to do everything as practically as possible in camera.”

He explained that while watching the movie, there were moments he found so incredible he assumed they must have been created with computer graphics. He later asked the director directly if those scenes were indeed CG.

“And he’s like, ‘No, no, no, that’s all in camera effects. Very planned, very prepared.’

I think audiences will be incredibly impressed by the movie’s visuals and action sequences. Even being on set during filming, I was amazed by the sheer scale and how well the director balanced a complex, emotional story with all the action.

I’m incredibly proud of my work in the film, and I’m grateful to Chris for giving me the chance to be a part of it. I truly believe audiences will be amazed by it.

I’m so excited about this movie! Tom Holland plays Telemachus, and he’s on this incredible journey to find his dad, Odysseus – Matt Damon plays him! Odysseus went off to fight in the Trojan War, and Telemachus is determined to track him down. It sounds amazing!

It’s easier said than done, though, because Odysseus faces many dangers on his journey home, including mythical creatures and the wrath of a powerful goddess.

Nolan has filmed the entire movie using IMAX cameras for the first time, and he’s gathered a fantastic cast. In addition to Tom Holland and Matt Damon, the film stars Robert Pattinson, Zendaya (who you can currently see in The Drama), Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, and Mia Goth, among others.

The Odyssey is released in cinemas on 17 July.
