MAFS Star Breaks Silence Over Shocking X-Rated Comment
On “Married at First Sight”, the groom known as a ‘warrior’, Ryan Donnelly, has now responded to the unexpected explicit comment he made concerning his wife Jacqui Burfoot.
In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, the 37-year-old fitness enthusiast, known for stirring controversy during this season of MAFS, admitted his involvement in the recent scandal.
‘Haha, watching my edit back was cringeworthy, but you know what? I’m here for it,’ Ryan said.
‘I’m here to be like, it’s a cautionary tale.’
Instead of just taking responsibility for your actions and learning from them, try showing initiative by fully embracing the situation, admitting any mistakes with a touch of humor, and then clearly demonstrating what you’ve learned from this experience.
During a workshop focused on intimacy, Ryan notoriously shocked his fellow actors and sparked public uproar by making a joke about his wife, saying “she has intense eyes… yet she delivers well in that area.” This phrase is intended to be a more polite and respectful way of expressing the original statement.
When asked if he truly understood the depth of emotional sensitivity required in that situation after facing criticism, Ryan admitted he wasn’t fully cognizant of it beforehand.
He acknowledged that there are multiple levels of empathy and emotional sensitivity that most men, including himself, were previously unaware of.
Clearly, some discussions are more appropriate in specific contexts rather than others, and the last night’s show wasn’t suitable for that particular conversation.
Ryan asserted that he and Jacqui exchanged a personal jest prior to the well-known intimacy workshop, during which his comment left both Alessandra Rampolla and other competitors taken aback.
He mentioned that we had already joked about it earlier, well before we started the intimacy workshop,” he explained.
‘Jacqui and I had a little bit of a joke about the crazy eyes, and even the crude remark as well.
However, the type of humor you’re using might not resonate with a group of grooms who you’ve just recently met – they aren’t close friends yet.
Ryan admitted he might have used less-than-ideal phrasing, yet he maintained that the level of upset may have been exaggerated slightly based on his convictions.

Indeed, I deeply regret my actions. I can certainly empathize with those who felt offended, and I sincerely apologize for the inappropriate words I used.
‘It was inappropriate, and I should have been more considerate in that moment.’
In Sydney, the groom himself confessed that he appeared somewhat awkward on his wedding day. This was due to an unforgettable moment when he accidentally dropped his bride during their inaugural dance.
There are things like forgetting to bring the bride to the wedding, pretending to be a brave warrior, or acting foolishly, but what you witnessed was simply thoughtless, crude, and unchivalrous – feel free to label it as you see fit.
‘I definitely learned from it.’
On Wednesday evening during the dinner party, Ryan experienced the displeasure of his co-stars, particularly instigated by groom Dave Thomas.
‘I have to say, I was largely ignorant of it at the time.
‘In the actual seminar, nobody really reacted.

A few chuckles followed the “crazy eyes” comment, while an explicit statement drew a couple of shocked intakes of breath, yet no one uttered a syllable in response.
‘Then suddenly, I’m being confronted at the dinner party like it was a planned roast session.’
Additionally, Ryan refuted claims suggesting he had hesitancy about expressing to Jacqui his lack of romantic interest, an issue that led to a heated exchange during the series.
‘As a matter of fact, I did pay her many compliments, starting at the lingerie store.
‘It wasn’t just “you’re a snack” and “you’re yummy”.
“She was stunning while wearing the lingerie. She tested out three distinct options, and I couldn’t help but shower her with all the compliments I could think of.
The controversial photo ranking task, which left Jacqui in tears, was also a major talking point.
Ryan ranked his wife third, which led to a major blow-up in their relationship.

‘It’s like a bad penny – it keeps coming back.
‘I’ve watched the replay six times now. It’s truly a dead horse that gets flogged,’ he laughed.
Absolutely, it’s quite an obstacle for us ahead. Looking back, I wish I had been more considerate.
‘I went in favour of pure honesty.’
Ryan further justified his action by reminding everyone that Jacqui publicly showed dissatisfaction with his look on their wedding day.
She shared that she felt let down because I wasn’t blond, didn’t have a clean shave, and wasn’t tall at 6’4″. She also mentioned that her previous partner was exceptionally well-built, almost like a Greek god.
‘So, should I have put her first just out of kindness, or should I have been true to myself?’
As a devoted supporter, I was among the early ones who spoke up against Ryan’s thoughtless remarks, and I am glad that he now acknowledges their unfairness.

Morena effectively highlighted an important perspective when she stated, “This person is someone’s daughter, someone’s sister.” It’s clear she would find it deeply troubling if the situation involved a family member of hers. Indeed, her point is quite valid.
Meanwhile, Jacqui’s emotional exit from the dinner party caught Ryan off guard.
Initially, we were discussing another topic, but all of a sudden, she rose from her seat, raised her arms, and left angrily.
‘I was like, “Oh jeez, okay. Catch you later?”‘
Ryan confessed that he hesitated about chasing after her, yet his primary concern was being able to enjoy his long-awaited meal following the previous commotion.
Was the MAFS groom queried about whether the depiction of Jacqui on the program truly represented real life?
‘All I can say is that the marriage and the relationship was a rollercoaster.
However, you can’t just jump right in and start complaining after two minutes, even if you’ve purchased the ticket; you must endure the entire ride.

Ryan claimed that Jacqui’s mood swings left him blindsided at times.
“She raises valid concerns regarding my insensitivity, however, I must admit that her emotions and personality can change dramatically. There have been instances where I found myself taken aback by surprise.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to address the recent conversation between Jacqui and me that surfaced on her Going Rogue podcast. I viewed our discussion as an opportunity to set the record straight rather than a matter of damage control, and I believe that being open and honest about our relationship is far from foolish.
She had seen all the earlier seasons, and we were both viewing footage in her apartment when I was there.
‘How could you sign up for this and not expect some bad moments to be aired?
‘It’s very premature.’
He also advised Jacqui ‘to stop taking it so seriously’.
The television personality playfully suggested that there might be further drama in their romantic situation, humorously referring to their Married at First Sight experience as a “Turbulent Love Flight.
Hello, passengers. This is your pilot speaking. You’re flying with Debate-Free Skies Airline today. We anticipate more bumps along the way during our journey.
Regardless of the turmoil, Ryan maintained that he has no remorse regarding the incident and is handling it calmly.
Or:
Despite the commotion, Ryan expressed no regret about the episode and was staying composed.
Or:
In the midst of the chaos, Ryan asserted that he had no regrets about the encounter and was dealing with it coolly.
It feels like we’re all attending a stand-up comedy show together. My friends are still around, enjoying the show with me and even poking fun at me. That’s the kind of camaraderie you find in true friendships.
When asked about a rumour that he had a ‘200 plus’ body count, Ryan simply laughed it off.
Goodness gracious! I see this origin is a mystery, but we have no doubts about its source. As for the specific details, that’s something private. Let’s allow folks to fill in the blanks on their own.
