On “Married at First Sight”, the groom known as a ‘warrior’, Ryan Donnelly, has now responded to the unexpected explicit comment he made concerning his wife Jacqui Burfoot.

In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, the 37-year-old fitness enthusiast, known for stirring controversy during this season of MAFS, admitted his involvement in the recent scandal.

‘Haha, watching my edit back was cringeworthy, but you know what? I’m here for it,’ Ryan said. 

‘I’m here to be like, it’s a cautionary tale.’

During a workshop focused on intimacy, Ryan notoriously shocked his fellow actors and sparked public uproar by making a joke about his wife, saying “she has intense eyes… yet she delivers well in that area.” This phrase is intended to be a more polite and respectful way of expressing the original statement.

When asked if he truly understood the depth of emotional sensitivity required in that situation after facing criticism, Ryan admitted he wasn’t fully cognizant of it beforehand.

He acknowledged that there are multiple levels of empathy and emotional sensitivity that most men, including himself, were previously unaware of.

Clearly, some discussions are more appropriate in specific contexts rather than others, and the last night’s show wasn’t suitable for that particular conversation.

Ryan asserted that he and Jacqui exchanged a personal jest prior to the well-known intimacy workshop, during which his comment left both Alessandra Rampolla and other competitors taken aback.

‘Then suddenly, I’m being confronted at the dinner party like it was a planned roast session.’ 

Additionally, Ryan refuted claims suggesting he had hesitancy about expressing to Jacqui his lack of romantic interest, an issue that led to a heated exchange during the series.

‘As a matter of fact, I did pay her many compliments, starting at the lingerie store. 

‘It wasn’t just “you’re a snack” and “you’re yummy”.

“She was stunning while wearing the lingerie. She tested out three distinct options, and I couldn’t help but shower her with all the compliments I could think of.

The controversial photo ranking task, which left Jacqui in tears, was also a major talking point.

Ryan ranked his wife third, which led to a major blow-up in their relationship.

‘It’s like a bad penny – it keeps coming back. 

‘I’ve watched the replay six times now. It’s truly a dead horse that gets flogged,’ he laughed.

Ryan further justified his action by reminding everyone that Jacqui publicly showed dissatisfaction with his look on their wedding day.

She shared that she felt let down because I wasn’t blond, didn’t have a clean shave, and wasn’t tall at 6’4″. She also mentioned that her previous partner was exceptionally well-built, almost like a Greek god.

‘So, should I have put her first just out of kindness, or should I have been true to myself?’

As a devoted supporter, I was among the early ones who spoke up against Ryan’s thoughtless remarks, and I am glad that he now acknowledges their unfairness.
