Directive 8020 Brings Sci-Fi Dark Pictures Horror to Xbox in October
Supermassive Games has unveiled an October launch date along with a fresh narrative trailer for the terrifying installment titled “Directive 8020“, which offers another chilling serving within the genre of horror adventures in the anthology series known as The Dark Pictures.
As a gamer, I’m diving into an immersive sci-fi horror odyssey set aboard the fated colony ship, the Cassiopeia. Lashana Lynch, from “No Time to Die” and “The Day of the Jackal”, takes center stage in this gripping tale. With Earth nearing its end, humanity hanging by a thread, and an alien menace looming, it’s shaping up to be the classic struggle for survival.
According to Creative Director Will Doyle, the team at Supermassive Games has been diligently crafting a narrative that blends sci-fi exploration with terrifying horror. Each decision could potentially result in a fatal outcome. Today, we’re revealing additional aspects of our storyline, delving into tenuous partnerships, concealed perils, and the boundaries of human fortitude when confronted by our most profound fears. We’re venturing into unexplored realms: the eerie depths of space.
12 light years away from home, you’ll find the planet Ceti f, where a glimmer of hope still lies hidden. Unfortunately, the Cassiopeia crash-lands here, but beware: the native alien on this planet is a shapeshifter that imitates its victims, much like in “The Thing.” To survive, you must outsmart it.
(Note: The use of italics for “The Thing” has been removed to make it easier to read.)
With multiple resources at hand, you can tackle puzzles, uncover hidden secrets, and defeat adversaries. These tools include a flashlight (its function will be clear as you use it), a scanner for locating electronics and controlling systems remotely, a messenger for communication and team strategy, and a wedge tool to manipulate doors and temporarily incapacitate enemies.
The Directive 8020 game is set to debut on October 2nd for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. You can watch the latest story trailer by clicking below.
