Shopify shutters Kanye West’s Yeezy website: Selling swastika shirt ‘violated our terms’

Recently, the artist previously known as Kanye West, who is now simply referred to as Ye, has disappeared from a section of the internet following another wave of offensive, hateful, and antisemitic remarks he made. This time, his absence isn’t voluntary.

Shopify, an online shopping platform, recently closed down Kanye West’s Yeezy clothing store due to its promotion of hate symbols. Previously, the website had been altered to solely offer a $20 white T-shirt adorned with a black swastika.

The rapper and entrepreneur, who legally changed his name in 2021, advertised the website during a cryptic commercial that aired during Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. As of Tuesday morning, the website displays error messages: “Something went wrong” and “This store is unavailable.”

As a dedicated Shopify user, I learned on Tuesday that any store operating on their platform is required to follow their rules and conditions of service. Unfortunately, Yeezy.com failed to comply with genuine trading practices and breached these terms, resulting in their removal from Shopify’s platform.

Yes, the artist once recognized as Kanye West, who recently changed his name, has signed off from his old platform (originally Twitter), following another weekend filled with controversial anti-Semitic remarks. His final words were a note of gratitude towards Elon for providing him an outlet to express himself.

The representative failed to promptly explain exactly which rules Yeezy.com allegedly broke, however, it’s important to note that Shopify advises its users on their website to avoid participating in actions that “violate the principles of commerce” and they should not “incite, or make threats of violence against specific individuals or groups.

As a film enthusiast, I was captivated by Yeezy.com’s role in Ye’s Super Bowl ad. Initially, during the broadcast, the website showcased various merchandise such as hoodies and socks, not the controversial hate symbol T-shirt. However, Variety reported on Monday that just an hour after the commercial aired in Los Angeles, it seems Ye changed the site to display the swastika shirt instead.

Initially, the advertisement – apparently a selfie video that appears to be Ye (formerly Kanye West) recording at the dentist’s office – did not trigger any concerns prior to its broadcast on three Fox-affiliated television stations.

According to a source, the advertisement was so inconspicuous that it’s unlikely people made the connection. They thoroughly investigated the clear and well-organized content on the website.

Previously known as Kanye West, the rapper now identifies himself as having received an accurate diagnosis of Autism, stating that his earlier diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder was incorrect.

Prior to the Super Bowl, Ye (previously known as Kanye West) shared during a podcast that his previous diagnosis of bipolar disorder was incorrect. Additionally, he continued to make offensive and hateful comments, particularly against user X, on what used to be known as Twitter.

Over the weekend, he utilized a social media platform run by Elon Musk to proclaim himself as a Nazi sympathizer and offer fresh admiration for Adolf Hitler. He also advocated for the liberation of Sean “Diddy” Combs, currently imprisoned awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking and conspiracy, and claimed he holds authority over his wife Bianca Censori, whom he infamously displayed almost fully nude at the 2025 Grammy Awards red carpet.

Over the weekend, the Grammy-winning artist was criticized yet again for making hurtful remarks about the Jewish community and expressing support for Nazism. In the past few years, he has been heavily criticized for his anti-Semitic statements, many of which he posted online on platform X. His actions have led to a significant fall from public favor.

On Tuesday, a new lawsuit was submitted in Los Angeles, which contains assertions about Kanye West’s apparent affinity towards white supremacist ideologies. The complaint, lodged by a Jewish woman who claims she was West’s employee, accuses the rapper of openly identifying as a Nazi and likening himself to Adolf Hitler within the work environment.

A well-known rap artist, known for his quick-changing personality, is accused in a court case filed this week of mishandling Jewish workers within his clothing brand, and bragging about being similar to Adolf Hitler.

On Sunday, X chose to step away from his platform, as his ability to post was restricted by Musk due to inappropriate content. However, prior to deactivating his account, a message commending Musk was shared.

The controversial rapper expressed gratitude towards Elon, stating that he was appreciative of being given the opportunity to express his feelings. He mentioned that it felt extremely therapeutic for him to utilize the world as an outlet for his thoughts.
