Mom Claps Back at Critics Over Son’s Blonde Hair and Pearl Earring
On Tuesday, Ruby Tuesday Mathews responded to her critics about her parenting methods following the unveiling of her nine-year-old son Rocket’s fresh hairstyle.
In a simple rephrasing: The social media personality from Byron Bay, aged 31, has two kids, Rocket and Mars, who are both 8 years old, with her former partner Ryan Heywood. Additionally, she has a 2-year-old daughter named Holiday, whom she shares with her fiancé Shannan Dodd.
In a previous post, Ruby wrote something like this: ‘Some people have expressed worries that he might be too young…,’ in reference to comments about Rocket’s new hairstyle as depicted in the before-and-after pictures she shared.
In a single image, his hair was a large, golden-brown cascade, but now Ruby has transformed it into bright platinum blond.
In the after picture, he showed off his new blonde hair and accessorised with one pearl earring.
Following some parents expressing their views, Ruby, known for her forthrightness, responded with a firm rebuttal.
She expressed her opinion that he seems too young to have an iPad or a phone, but she acknowledged that her family might be more exceptional in terms of maturity and responsibility compared to others.
‘I’d rather my kids express themselves creatively and feel safe asking me to help them do it.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d say, “Everyone’s mane is unique and evolving – it sprouts, transforms, and for many, it’s an essential aspect of their identity. Whether you opt for daring trims, vibrant hues, or embracing the natural state, it’s all about self-expression.
To conclude with a touch of humor, the Instagram model jokingly remarked, ‘Ultimately, I’m worried that my mom or grandma might just give me a good scolding instead!’
Many parents rushed to Ruby’s defence in the comments section.
‘Did this to my brother every summer since he was six. He loved himself sick,’ one wrote.
Another person expressed strong agreement by saying, ‘Completely with you… hair is just hair, we can style it in various ways, such as cutting or dyeing it. It will eventually grow back. My daughter wanted to color her hair pink, blue, and purple when she was only four years old. If we can’t have rainbow-colored hair at that age, what’s the fun of growing up?’

In response to Faith Irving’s comment that she initially mistook the earring for something unrelated to hair, Ruby stated that her son isn’t permitted to sport the pearl accessory at school.
On this occasion, she’s not a novice at standing up for herself against critics; she resorted to her signature bold humor to counteract mom-shaming.
In September, Ruby fired back at fans who body shamed her after she shared a racy poolside video.
She turned her back towards the camera, hiding her hands beneath her chest, while strolling into the pool without a top, enjoying a carefree afternoon.
In response to a flood of critical comments about her outfit, she retorted, “It seems I don’t match the conventional image of a mother that you find acceptable.
Even though I’m a mom, it doesn’t imply that I’ve retired my high heels! It’s 2024, and I can continue to exude confidence, regardless of what I choose to wear, and maintain a touch of elegance while balancing diapers and Netflix.
