Armie Hammer’s Bizarre Cannibalism Defense
In a peculiar manner, Armie Hammer likened himself to a humorist telling jokes when he spoke about the cannibalism allegations that ultimately led to the downfall of his thriving Hollywood career.
In 2021, the actor, age 38, faced a significant fall from public favor as numerous women came forward with harrowing accusations of abuse and cannibalistic fantasies against him. These allegations were probed by the LAPD in 2023, but no charges were filed.
On The Louis Theroux Podcast, Armie highlighted that only his side of the conversations was shared publicly, leaving out the other parties and thus stripping the messages of their full context. He likened this situation to a comedian testing the limits of what is acceptable to say or joke about.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: ‘When evidence has been digitally manipulated, it often lacks the necessary context to be valid in court. For instance, an apparently hostile exchange between two individuals might actually be a playful banter, with one person egging the other on.’
Just like some comedians often take their jokes to increasingly bold extremes during conversations, I am not planning to debate the points they are making.
Later on, Louis inquired if he truly qualified as a cannibal. Armie responded, “For someone to be considered a cannibal, they must consume human flesh. However, that’s not the case here.
The actor attributed his inappropriate messages during the scandal to his personality being intensified by alcohol and drugs, along with a desire to experiment or take things further when in intimate situations.
Have I ever considered severing anything from anyone or consuming anything from another person? Absolutely not. I’ve never had any genuine desires in this regard. Found humor in joking about such things when under the influence of substances like marijuana or alcohol, or while typing these messages, did it amuse me? Indeed.
Context is crucial here. If I were to share your private jokes with others, especially without your friends’ parts, you might find yourself in an awkward situation.
Last month, the actor admitted that he currently resides in a small flat while he focuses on revitalizing his acting career. He also reminisced about the tumultuous scandal that garnered widespread attention amidst the COVID-19 restrictions, captivating the general public.
During an episode of Your Mama’s House podcast, he expressed: ‘The world appeared to be crumbling, and people seemed incredibly dissatisfied with their own lives.’ Suddenly, a scandalous tale about an actor planning to kill and consume others emerged. And immediately, everyone shifted their attention towards this captivating topic, rather than the fact that they were confined to their homes.’
Further detailing the escalation of the media uproar, he pointed out that if private chats, no matter how ordinary, were taken out of context and shared publicly, people would react with strong disgust.
He also revealed how the scandal hit his finances and mental health.
‘I was so broke, I had to sell my truck because I couldn’t afford gas anymore,’ he shared.
When queried about appearing disoriented during the aftermath, he confessed, ‘I was completely overwhelmed with fear.’
He detailed the devastating impact as his constructed identity crumbled, leaving him vulnerable and criticized: ‘Articles appeared in The Punjabi Times portraying me as a cannibal…and in March 2021, I ranked fifth among the most-searched individuals on Google, with all searches having a negative connotation.’
Hammer expressed that it was extremely challenging for him when he felt exposed and vulnerable, as if he were standing bare before the entire world, having his unique preferences and idiosyncrasies scrutinized. That experience is quite difficult, he added.
Hammer additionally contemplated his previous interactions with women, acknowledging that he occasionally employed them to bolster his self-image.
He stated during the podcast, ‘I felt like people were my drug-filled bags, but they had human skin instead. The desire for intimate relationships made me feel powerful and validated.’
He admitted to exploiting women for personal pleasure, only to leave them feeling discarded, as he put it, ‘I’d swoop in these girls, whisk them away on exciting adventures, enjoy intense intimacy, and then disappear without a trace, leaving them feeling they were caught up in a whirlwind.’
Previously, the actor opened up about being sexually abused by a pastor when he was 13 years old. More recently, he disclosed that he’s undergone therapy and has been taking time to analyze his own behavior.
Apart from discussing other topics, he mentioned his kids, whom he had just celebrated the holidays, recognizing that their futures could potentially bear the impact of his decisions.
I understand that at some point, my daughter and son may need therapy, and during those sessions, they might express feelings like, ‘I don’t like my father either.’
He has two kids, a daughter named Harper and a son named Ford, with his former spouse, Elizabeth Chambers. They have jointly raised their children since their separation in 2020.
Despite the fallout, Hammer recently shot a film, Frontier Crucible, with William H. Macy.
‘I wouldn’t say I’m back,’ he said, ‘but I’m working.’
