Nicola Coughlan “beyond delighted” as hit Channel 4 show confirms return
Nicola Coughlan‘s TV show Big Mood has been renewed for a season two on Channel 4.
A year ago, a darkly humorous series penned by Camilla Whitehill debuted, starring Bridgerton’s lead actor alongside Lydia West of It’s a Sin fame as the inseparable duo Maggie and Eddie.
The program has garnered acclaim for its depiction of mental illness, focusing on Maggie’s bipolar disorder and the ways it shapes her life and relationships, notably her connection with Eddie.
Moving on to the next installment, the story resumes a year following the fallout between Maggie and Eddie’s friendship.
Upon Eddie’s return for a wedding, Maggie finds herself consumed with envy towards her former friend’s latest acquaintance, a remarkably cheerful spiritual guide named Whitney. Can these two characters rebuild their friendship?
“Deeply grateful to everyone who loves our mad, funny, sad show,” Coughlan said in a statement.
As a gaming enthusiast, crafting this game has undoubtedly been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my creative journey. Now, I can hardly contain my excitement as we delve back into the narrative and explore the next chapter in the lives of Maggie and Eddie!
She also mentioned, “Rats on standby,” which was a wink to the humorous aspect of the rat problem that was a significant element in the first season’s storyline.
West joined Coughlan in saying she is “so excited to reunite with my besties and work on series 2!”
“I can’t wait to see the scripts and get back to the world of Eggie!” she added.
Concerning Whitehill, the showrunner is thrilled to carry on with the tumultuous tale of Maggie and Eddie.
She expressed great joy, saying, “Since I didn’t have an alternative plan and lacked transferable skills, I’m thrilled to announce that Big Mood is coming back for more!
It’s been a true honor to find out that there are many others who share my unique interests in quirky things. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Channel 4, Dancing Ledge, and Fremantle for their unwavering backing and dedication.
I persistently threaten Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West with blackmail, ensuring my relentless pursuit of them will never cease. Their freedom from me is not an option.”
This version maintains the original’s tone while using more natural language that flows better for easy reading.
Big Mood season 2 will air on Channel 4.
