Rebecca Gibney Reveals Secret to 20-Year Marriage and Her Daring New Role on Dancing With The Stars!
Rebecca Gibney has opened up about the secret to a lasting marriage in the entertainment industry.
As a lifestyle aficionado, I’ve been fortunate to share over two decades of my life with my beloved partner, Richard Bell, who is a gifted production designer.
Originating from New Zealand and well-known on Australian television, this individual (inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame in 2024) announced on a recent Sunday that they will be part of the cast for Dancing With The Stars, marking the beginning of the ‘third phase’ of their life.
During her Logie Awards acceptance speech, she shared the story behind meeting her second spouse for the very first time at an age of sixty.
She mentioned that the individual I encountered on the Halifax set was Richard Bell, who served as the production designer at that point in time.
On Sunday, the movie star shared with Stellar her key to a long-lasting union in Hollywood, as well as any marriage – she described herself and her spouse as “the best of friends.

She mentioned, “He tends to stay out of the limelight more. Yet, he’s my closest friend, and just because we’re friends doesn’t necessarily exclude the possibility of romance.
To put it another way, he’s the one who sticks by me through thick and thin. He appreciates me for who I am, with all my wrinkles and imperfections. Whether I’m at my heaviest or lightest, he still loves me. His affection isn’t swayed by appearances; instead, he truly understands me.
In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald in 2017, Rebecca stated that she encountered Richard when she was thirty-five years old.
In the past, I managed to come to terms with my history, and then along came a striking, tall individual from New Zealand – coincidentally, they lived on the very same street where I resided at age five.
‘We met in 1999, got together in 2000 and married in 2001 and have been happy ever since.’
The couple welcomed their only child, son Zachary Edison Bell, on April 7, 2004.
She shared with Stellar that despite sharing similar tastes for everything, we don’t necessarily agree all the time, as there are instances when we argue, but ultimately find common ground through compromise.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel that minor setbacks should never overshadow the grandeur of our shared journey. We’ve weathered storms and endured heartache side by side, and it’s this bond that makes me appreciate even more the bigger picture we’re working towards.

In any situation, I can always count on him, just as he relies on me. He holds the top spot among all – him and my child are my foremost concerns.
The actress’s remarks are made during a series of notable divorces involving her social circle and fellow Hollywood celebrities, such as Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen, as well as Deborra-Lee Furness and Hugh Jackman.
On numerous instances, Rebecca declined invitations for reality TV programs, but eventually joined Dancing with the Stars following her 60th birthday.
She expressed that she prefers saying “yes” over “no,” and desires experiences that push her limits in the hope of adding some additional years to her life.
Reflecting on my life’s journey through the captivating compilation of my remarkable TV career spanning over four decades, I shared an intriguing tidbit: I was the fortunate one who locked lips with none other than the dashing Australian actor for our very first screen kiss at 59, years young!
In 1985, Rebecca first made her mark on Australian television through the series Zoo Family. Later, during their collaboration on Halifax FP, a program that premiered in 1994, she shared a kiss with the popular actor who was 55 years old at the time.
During an interview, Rebecca described the situation as being somewhat uncomfortable and strange. She mentioned that he didn’t kiss her correctly and seemed to hesitate, saying something like, “It feels a bit odd.” Nonetheless, she suggested that it somehow managed to work out for her.
When Rebecca was ultimately summoned to the stage by her son Zachary to receive her accolade, the accomplished dressmaker struggled to hold back tears while delivering her heartfelt address.

‘To my family, oh, okay I’m not going to get through this,’ she tearfully began.
‘The man I met on the set of Halifax, he was a production designer at the time, Richard Bell.
I appreciate your consistent inquiry about whether a task aligns with my happiness or brings me joy, and your encouragement to pursue it when it does. Additionally, I value your selflessness in setting aside your own work numerous times to allow me to do mine.
‘You have been my rock and my love for nearly a quarter of a century and I am so grateful for that.
For my dear son Zac, who consistently fills me with the purest form of happiness, I couldn’t be more proud of you. Your kindness, gentleness, and extraordinary talents never cease to amaze me. Thank you for showing me how to be a great mother. My love for you transcends any words that can be spoken.
As I stood before you all, I couldn’t help but feel an immense sense of pride – not just for myself, but for the countless other women who will undoubtedly follow in my footsteps. Today, I am honored to be one of only four women enshrined in the Hall of Fame, yet I firmly believe that this number will continue to grow exponentially with each passing day.
She became the fourth female inductee into the TV Week Logie Hall of Fame in a span of 64 years, following Noni Hazlehurst, Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and the late Ruth Cracknel.
