Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Invincible season 4, episode 6, “You Look Horrible.”
As season 4 of Invincible focuses more on the Viltrumite War, we’re witnessing the most powerful heroes uniting to face incredibly dangerous enemies. Given the immense destruction caused by the strongest Viltrumites, it’s understandable that the Coalition is assembling a massive force to finally defeat this empire.
Most of the strongest characters in Invincible, with a few exceptions like Atom Eve and Robot, are now uniting to fight back. We’ve already glimpsed what Allen and Battle Beast are capable of, and characters like Tech Jacket and Space Racer have proven useful recently, giving fans a reason to be hopeful.
Mark, Nolan, and Oliver’s return was vital to saving Talescria, but Thaedus proved to be just as powerful a fighter. Even though he was the leader of the Coalition of Planets and a Viltrumite, he hadn’t fought in person until the battle depicted in “You Look Horrible,” where he immediately demonstrated his incredible abilities.
Thaedus Finally Joined The Viltrumite War & He’s Even Stronger Than We Thought
Given Thaedus’ background, it’s not shocking he’s such a strong fighter—he is a Viltrumite. But seeing him fight was incredible; he consistently beat even Viltrum’s toughest warriors, solidifying his reputation as the Coalition’s most valuable asset.
It wasn’t long before he was drawn into the fighting, and though it’s unknown if he intended to join the battle, the Viltrum Empire’s invasion of Talescria left him with little choice. The villains inflicted heavy losses, but the Coalition managed to defeat them, with Thaedus playing a key role in their victory.
Because he was the first Viltrumite to ever turn against their empire, they branded him a traitor. It’s no surprise he’s such a powerful enemy – despite his age, he fights with the strength and skill of a much younger warrior.
It’s hard to gauge Thaedus’s full power until he fights more one-on-one battles, but he appears strong enough to challenge even the most powerful Viltrumites, like Thragg. That’s why he’s considered one of the strongest members of the Coalition in Invincible.
Although we haven’t seen much proof yet, he managed to defeat General Kregg, Anissa, and Lucan all on his own, and they couldn’t even hurt him badly. This shows he’s much more powerful than we thought, which makes what happens next even more exciting.
Thaedus’ First Fight Proves He’s One Of The Coalition’s Strongest Fighters
Characters like Mark, Omni-Man, and Allen have all faced Viltrumites in battle, but Thaedus made a bigger impact in his first fight than any of them. While Mark has fought more battles than anyone in Invincible, and initially lost many, he’s become incredibly powerful, eventually defeating Conquest by himself.
Mark’s performance solidifies his place among the show’s best fighters, and Nolan proved his strength by handling two Viltrumites simultaneously earlier in the series. While Allen and Battle Beast are certainly powerful, Allen’s abilities have varied, and we haven’t yet seen Battle Beast face any significant Viltrumite opponents, despite having defeated one before.
I’m still really curious about what’s going to happen with the rest of the Coalition. While Tech Jacket has evolved so much in season 4 of Invincible, it’s obvious she can’t defeat a Viltrumite all by herself – not yet, anyway. Sure, she managed to take down a corrupted version of Invincible, but that guy was significantly less powerful than the main character we all know.
Space Racer does have a powerful weapon – strong enough to take down a Viltrumite by surprise – but most opponents should be able to avoid it. We also haven’t seen much of his fighting skills up close. While Oliver is capable, he’s significantly less powerful than his enemies, meaning he likely won’t be a serious challenge, particularly when compared to someone like Thaedus.
The Coalition leader was giving General Kregg a tough fight, effectively battling both Anissa and Lucan simultaneously. Both of them have defeated Mark and Nolan at different points in the series, though the circumstances mattered. Either way, Thaedus is clearly a top-tier fighter among the Viltrumites, making him one of the strongest characters in the show.
Mark is getting incredibly powerful, making it difficult to gauge his true limits, and Battle Beast hasn’t even been challenged yet. However, Thaedus is definitely as strong as Allen and Nolan, and plays a key role in potentially defeating the Viltrumites.
Thaedus’ History With The Viltrum Empire Makes Him Even More Important To The Coalition Than Mark & Omni-Man
While the main characters in Invincible understandably take center stage, Thaedus is arguably the most important member of the Coalition of Planets. Not only is he their leader, but his past experiences with the Viltrumites are especially significant—he was the first of their kind to recognize and oppose their brutality.
His defiance of the Empire, and the fact that he eliminated most of its population, inspires the rest of the universe to believe the Viltrumites can be overcome. He also understands their vulnerabilities, which further proves how important he is to any potential victory.
While Thaedus might not win the war single-handedly, his leadership inspires hope within the resistance. He’s also a master of using Invincible‘s most powerful weapons against the Viltrumites, and he’s prepared for the worst – he’s made the scourge virus even more dangerous as a last resort.
The virus nearly wiped out Viltrum’s population once, leaving fewer than 50 survivors. This version is far more potent – it would kill all Viltrumites, including himself, Nolan, and probably even Mark. Oliver, being part Viltrumite, would also be at risk, demonstrating just how deadly this virus is.
Thaedus is the Coalition of Planets’ most valuable member due to his strength, resilience, intelligence, and unwavering reliability. His survival is crucial, and while he might make a heroic sacrifice in Invincible, he’ll be central to how the Viltrumite War ultimately plays out, no matter what happens.
