Impressive Belfast-based BBC crime drama adds new cast in series update

As a dedicated gamer, I’m always on the lookout for exciting news, and in the realm of TV shows, it’s no different! The Belfast-based crime drama I’ve been hooked on, Blue Lights, just announced some fresh additions to its crew for the upcoming third season. Can’t wait to see how these new faces bring more life and intrigue to the storyline!

The popular show, that received a third and fourth season renewal prior to its second season debut last year, features Sian Brooke, known from “House of the Dragon,” and Katherine Devlin and Nathan Braniff from “Day of the Jackal.” They play probationary officers employed by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

It has been verified that actors Cathy Tyson from “Dune: Prophecy” and Michael Smiley known for his role in “Bad Sisters” have officially become part of the cast for season three. At this point, their specific roles are still a secret.

In the next season of “Blue Lights”, we’ll delve into the lives of officers Grace, Annie, and Tommy as they navigate their assignments, uncovering a shady underworld that lurks beneath the polished facade of suburban existence. This secret realm is where the accountants, lawyers, and other seemingly respectable professionals orchestrate organized crime.

In the summary, it’s stated that the old system of politics and crime has collapsed, and in its place, a new worldwide criminal empire has taken over Belfast. This puts our officers at greater risk than ever before as danger is now literally knocking on their doorsteps.

For the upcoming season 3, Joanne Crawford reprises her role as Helen, Andi Osho continues as Sandra, Frank Blake returns as Shane, Abigail McGibbon takes on Tina again, Dearbháile McKinney will be back as Aisling, and Andrea Irvine will once more portray Nicola.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that for the upcoming season, the first three episodes will be skillfully directed by Jack Casey. On the other hand, the talented Angela Griffin, known from ‘Waterloo Road’, will take charge for the final three episodes. The cameras are already rolling!

The pleasure we derive from creating ‘Blue Lights’ is in getting to know the characters, observing them develop, learn, and face the everyday challenges of policing in Belfast, as stated by the co-creators and executive producers, Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson.

Fundamentally, this program revolves around the themes of individual, organizational, and societal transformation. Each season aims to express these concepts uniquely.

It’s hard to think of anyone more suitable for nurturing our creative ideas than the talented directors, Jack Casey and Angela Griffin, from series three. It’s always a pleasure to return to Blackthorn.

Blue Lights airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
