Football Manager 25 Has Been Fully Cancelled

Sega has officially confirmed that the release of Football Manager 25 has been scrapped entirely, following a series of postponements.

This morning, I woke up to some exciting news – straight from the horse’s mouth, or rather, Sega! As part of their recent financial report, they dropped a tidbit that got my gaming heart racing. And guess who’s going to be sharing more details? None other than Sports Interactive, the masterminds behind Football Manager, my go-to game when I need a virtual football fix!

To those who pre-ordered FM25, we express our deepest gratitude for the faith and confidence you placed in us. Regrettably, we fell short of expectations and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.

It’s unfortunate news we have to share, considering the postponement of the release date on two occasions, and your eagerness for the unveiling of the first gameplay. We understand this may be a significant letdown.”

Or even simpler:

“We regret to inform you that there has been another delay in the release date, which we know you’ve been eagerly waiting for the gameplay reveal. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

Later, SI took the time to express their regret for failing to keep fans informed in January, as they had earlier promised they would.

I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you about this decision. Due to various stakeholder obligations like legal and financial rules, today was the soonest possible day we could make this announcement.

Ultimately, the developer concluded that despite potentially pushing the release date past March, they felt it wasn’t feasible to expect players to invest in a new season at such a late stage. Instead, they decided it was more sensible to simply wait for the next complete game to be released.

Although several aspects of the game meet our goals, the overall player experience and user interface fall short of expectations. Extensive reviews, including consumer testing, have confirmed that we’re on the right track with the new direction for the game, yet there’s still a significant gap between where we are now and the quality you should expect.

Instead of rushing to launch FM25 now and making adjustments later, we decided against it because it’s not the best approach. Moreover, delaying the release beyond March was not feasible since it would be too late in the football season for players to purchase another game at a later date.

SI will now focus on the next Football Manager, presumably 26.

Sports Interactive regrets to announce that, after careful consideration, we’ve decided to cancel Football Manager 25.
