Samuel Anderson: Amandaland’s Handsome New Star You’ve Seen in Gavin & Stacey, Doctor Who!
At long last, the highly-awaited spin-off series, Amandaland from our homeland, has made its television premiere, bringing relief to patients who have been waiting with bated breath for its arrival.
The TV show from the BBC centers around Amanda, a lovable but exasperating character portrayed by Lucy Punch, who deals with the challenges of divorcing, managing life, and bringing up her two adolescent children in a significantly smaller apartment.
In the spin-off, you’ll recognize a few familiar faces, but we’ve also introduced some fresh characters. One of these newcomers is Mal, Amanda’s unhappy neighbor living below her, portrayed by Samuel Anderson.
The dashingly attractive actor, aged 42, has sparked excitement among viewers during the series, with numerous fans expressing their admiration towards him on various social platforms, complimenting his good looks and urging that his character, Mal, develops into a primary romantic interest for Amanda.
The comments included: ‘Watching Amandaland. So funny. Also her neighbour is so yummm’;
‘Need more ASAP and so here for the Amanda/Mal slow burn…’; ‘Love Mal’;

Oh my goodness, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the banter between Amanda and Mal! With Amanda’s mom in the mix, it was downright hilarious – absolutely side-splitting stuff!
Previous spectators found themselves puzzling over the actor’s familiarity, as he boasts an impressive resume with roles in several well-known British television series.
To be quite honest, I was absolutely thrilled when I got to see him again in the grand finale of Gavin & Stacey! It was like a dream come true, especially since it was a special episode airing on Christmas Day 2024 and he reprised his beloved role.
For a while, long-standing viewers of the sitcom might recall Samuel, who played the role of Fingers, the lady’s man friend of Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Smithy (James Corden), during the show’s initial broadcast.
As a cherished member of their tight-knit social circle in Essex, he went by an intriguing alias among friends. He also gained notoriety for flirtatiously approaching one of Stacey’s (Joanna Page) friends during her wedding to Gavin.
In the last episode of the series, he once again took on the character of Fingers, appearing at Smithy’s bachelor party before his unfortunate wedding to Sonia (played by Laura Aikman).
Moreover, Samuel isn’t just known for one globally recognized British series; he additionally appeared in a recurring role during the eighth season of Doctor Who.
During Peter Capaldi’s tenure as the main character, the Time Lord, Samuel played the role of Clara Oswald’s (Jenna Coleman) romantic interest, Danny Pink.

As a devoted follower of Danny and Clara’s tale, I found myself captivated by their lives intertwining at the neighborhood school where they both taught. Their bond deepened into romance, but fate took a cruel turn as Danny met an unfortunate accident on the streets, struck by a car.
In a captivating turn reminiscent of science fiction lore, his awareness transitioned into the Nethersphere, resulting in his rebirth as a Cyberman. Subsequently, he gave up his existence to protect Clara.
In addition, Samuel became well-known for portraying the character Crowther in the 2006 film “The History Boys,” a comedy/romance, where he shared the screen with notable figures such as James Corden, Dominic Cooper, and Russell Tovey.
After first performing the role on stage for Alan Bennett’s The History Boys at the National Theatre in 2004, he later got the part to play it in a movie.
Over time, he’s cultivated a strong bond of friendship with the comedian James, and managed to land his part in Gavin & Stacey only a year following the release of The History Boys.
In the early stages of my professional journey, I graced the screen of Emmerdale, playing the role of Ross Kirk for an engaging two-year period, from 2007 to 2009.
Familiar with daytime dramas, Samuel had brief appearances on Casualty and Doctors prior to landing a role in an episode of Midsomer Murders.
In the television series titled “Loaded,” he appeared as one of the four characters who became extremely wealthy when they sold their video game business for £246 million.

Samuel boasts additional roles in various successful TV series such as Renegade Nell, Mammals, The Chemistry of Death, Landscapers, and the series titled Murder, They Hope.
His career achievements go beyond just the BBC, as he’s also been a part of the Netflix sci-fi series “Another Life” along with Katee Sackhoff.
Before becoming famous, Samuel was born in Handsworth, Birmingham, and learned his craft at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts in London.)
Samuel maintains a secretive personal life, preferring to keep it away from the public eye, as he doesn’t operate an Instagram account in the public domain.
