Rihanna takes on unexpected role in new movie trailer
Smurfs, the upcoming movie starring Rihanna and James Corden, has unveiled its first trailer.
In this new adaptation of the series, Smurfette, played by Rihanna, guides her Smurf companions when they venture from their magical world to our own reality, as Papa Smurf (portrayed by John Goodman) is kidnapped by a pair of malevolent wizards.
Prior to its launch on July 18th, the initial trailer featuring a brief introduction by the popular singer, has now been unveiled. The sneak peek offers a glimpse of an innovative animation style and displays the tiny heroes’ adventures set in the city of Paris.
Additionally, you’ll catch a peek at the villains Gargamel and Razamel (both voiced by JP Karliak). The voice cast also includes Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, and Nick Offerman, portraying Ken, the brother of Papa Smurf.
Furthermore, the ensemble of talented actors assembled here is comprised of Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, and Kurt Russell.
Chris Miller, famously recognized for helming ‘Shrek the Third’ and ‘Puss in Boots’, is at the helm of this upcoming project. Screenwriter Pam Brady, known for her work on ‘South Park’ and ‘Team America: World Police’, is crafting the script. Moreover, Rihanna, who has previously acted in ‘Ocean’s 8’ and ‘Guava Island’, is also involved as a producer for this movie.
In the movie, it’s Corden, portraying the character No Name, who wrapped up his run on the popular sitcom “Gavin & Stacey” – that aired its last episode, a special one-off, on Christmas Day in 2024.
The actor involved in co-creating the show with Ruth Jones revealed his plan to surprise viewers after the 2019 special. He hinted, “I wondered if we could deceive everyone into believing that for the initial six to seven minutes, they’re merely watching a wedding between Nessa and Smithy.
During my commute to work, I recall phoning Ruth… I was like an enthusiastic rabbit, asking, ‘What if?’ To which she responded, ‘Nah.’ But then, when she said, ‘Oh, yes,’ I knew it was a good idea.
Smurfs is scheduled to be released in cinemas on July 18.
