Harrison Ford addresses Indiana Jones 5 flop

Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford has opened up about the fifth film in the franchise flopping.

1981 saw Harrison Ford playing the main archaeologist character in Raiders of the Lost Ark, followed by his appearances in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (released in 1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (in 1989), all while portraying the iconic role of Star Wars‘ Han Solo.

20 years after first playing the role, he returned to it in 2008 for “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, a sequel that drew mixed reviews from critics but was the franchise’s biggest box office hit, earning an impressive $786 million globally.

However, the 2023 release of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” failed to maintain the series’ momentum, due in part to a high production cost and underwhelming critical reception, which contributed to its poor performance at the box office.

In a report, it’s stated that Disney suffered an estimated loss of $130 million from this project. However, when speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Ford provided a straightforward comment about the well-liked series’ setback.

He commented, ‘Life has its unexpected moments.’ It was my belief that there was a different tale to be shared. After [Indy] experienced the repercussions of his lifestyle, I yearned for another opportunity to help him, brush off the dust from his rear, and put him back in the game, slightly weaker, to witness how things unfolded. I’m glad I made that film.

The well-known figure from Hollywood is hopping between massive franchises, with his upcoming on-screen role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appearing in “Captain America: A New World Order“.

As a gaming enthusiast, I stepped into the boots of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the blockbuster universe, filling the shoes left by the late William Hurt, who portrayed the character brilliantly over five movies spanning the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Initially, he made his debut in the character during “Captain America: New World Order“, sharing insights about the demanding shooting process for this major movie project.

He explained to Esquire that there are difficult days, simple days, enjoyable days, and various types of days. “It’s a demanding routine,” he added, “Yes, it can be enjoyable, but it’s no picnic. It’s not playtime fun. It’s hard work.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is now streaming on Disney+.
