Blake Lively’s $600K Wardrobe: A Costly Mistake or Worth Every Penny?
The book “It Ends With Us” has sparked controversy from claims of sexual harassment, involvement by Taylor Swift and Ryan Reynolds, body-shaming accusations, and even a fuss over Blake Lively’s footwear – creating a whirlwind of tension that seems to touch every aspect of the novel.
Justin Baldoni’s court papers assert that his fellow actor demanded significant changes to the wardrobe designs right from the beginning of the project, aiming to match her interpretation of the character, Lily Bloom. This redesign reportedly led to an escalation in costs exceeding half a million dollars.
The legal papers indicate that Lively allegedly disregarded the director’s conception of her character’s wardrobe and overruled the weeks of hard work and artistic ingenuity put into selecting and designing her costumes. Moreover, it is stated that she provided numerous costume designs to the film’s costume designer, showcasing her desired style for her character’s attire.
As a lifestyle expert, I find myself in a position where I must disclose that the costume designer allegedly encountered unexpected challenges in managing Blake Lively’s wardrobe. The cost for this task reportedly surpassed the budgeted amount significantly and consumed more time and resources than anticipated. Simultaneously, the designer was also responsible for preparing wardrobes for the rest of the cast, which added to the complexity of the situation.
Additionally, it’s said that she aspired to invest $5,000 on footwear to convey her financial status, even though she was a novice small business proprietor. This spending habit necessitated Baldoni to revise an entire script that had been under development for several years.
Although a court case won’t be held until 2026 to address the competing claims, fans can already express their opinions about whether the money invested in Blake’s wardrobe, full of patchwork, denim, and camouflage pieces, was worth it.
On April 25, 2023, a notice from the Line Producer regarding the film budget indicates that the Wardrobe department has been allocated a spending limit of $185,000.
Typically, the wardrobe expenditure exceeds the budget, followed by a large number of returns. According to our wardrobe team, they plan to spend approximately $500,000 initially but will only end up with around $185,000 after processing the returns.
So far, they’ve expended a total of $615,000 and find themselves in need of refilling their cash cards as they have been purchasing items exclusively for Justin and Blake.
‘They had to reshop everything for Blake after creative changes but it’s a lot of money.
Of course, I have faith in them, but I want to make sure everyone stays informed because the wardrobe expenses are significantly exceeding our initial budget – something I haven’t experienced before.
Currently, it’s necessary to refill their cards as they haven’t made purchases for the other characters yet. I wanted to keep everyone informed about this.
A dispute over legal matters arose close to Christmas, as Blake, aged 37, filed a lawsuit against her co-star Justin, who is 41, alleging sexual harassment. However, Justin denies these accusations.
Simultaneously, a report by The New York Times emerged from Blake’s court documents, alleging that he had masterminded a smear campaign aimed at her through the media.
In response, Justin filed a lawsuit for defamation against The Times and initiated a $400 million lawsuit against Blake and her husband Ryan Reynolds, alleging that she misused her celebrity influence to sabotage his movie and potentially harm his career. However, both The Times and Blake have disputed these accusations.
Currently, explosive court records reveal the extensive measures Blake took to assert control over her clothing selections – a point of contention, even though director Justin, Sony, and Wayfarer had already approved the character’s wardrobe.
Typically, main actors have the power to decide on the overall appearance of their characters, although they don’t often get complete authority.
The evidence indicates that Blake’s bold fashion decisions might have caught Justin off guard, potentially undermining the careful wardrobe plan developed over several weeks for her character. This wardrobe design was meticulously chosen and created to suit Blake’s character, which had been prepared well in advance.
According to the legal records, Blake was frequently sending a large number of photos at night to the movie’s costume designer.
Due to Blake’s requests, the costume designer for the movie found it necessary to go beyond the original budget, time, and resources, by having to completely redesign Blake’s wardrobe.
The documents also state that Blake frequently declined attending wardrobe fittings at the office, which was just 15 minutes away from her house in Manhattan, and it’s said she insisted on having the clothes sent to her place instead, incurring significant additional costs.
According to these papers, Justin and the studio gave Blake complete authority over her outfits as a means to preserve harmony and prevent additional hold-ups. Unfortunately, this decision turned out to be something they regretted later on.
2023, on May 15th during filming, pictures of Blake in her fresh wardrobe were released by paparazzi. These photos sparked criticism from Sony, as they were generally perceived as not flattering.
According to the lawsuit, Sony directly criticized Justin, expressing significant worries that the photographs might negatively affect the movie’s public perception.
It was also alleged that Justin went to Blake’s trailer when she was with her crew to talk about modifications in her costumes, reinforce his position as director, and persuade her to let him decide on her character’s outfits.
In court on Monday, Blake’s legal team presented fresh accusations in their ongoing dispute with Justin, which has been a topic of much debate.
Bryan Freedman, Justin’s lawyer, earnestly requested the court to expedite the case given that his client was experiencing significant distress.
Michael Gottlieb, Blake’s attorney, firmly disputed the suggestion that Blake intentionally delayed the legal proceedings.
In simpler terms, Judge Lewis Liman refused Blake and her husband Ryan’s request to silence Team Justin after their lawyer made several explosive allegations.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share this intriguing update: Gottlieb hinted at new accusations against Justin, in relation to Blake’s sexual harassment case. Interestingly, he emphasized that safeguarding their celebrity companions is of utmost importance in this situation.
During the court hearing, Gottlieb stated their intention to incorporate ‘all claims and involved parties’ into an updated complaint, which they plan to submit before Valentine’s Day.
A week ago, Justin revised his allegations in his $400 million lawsuit for defamation he filed against Blake Lively (the Gossip Girl star). His accusation claimed that she had provided The New York Times with an early look at her sexual harassment complaint that was made during the production of the film It Ends With Us.
In simpler terms, Gottlieb criticized Freedman for his out-of-court remarks that called into question Blake’s character, honesty, and trustworthiness.
Following his complaints, Blake’s legal team was informed that they (the Lively camp) had instigated the New York Times article, as stated by Gottlieb.
According to Gottlieb, Freedman alleged in an interview with People that Blake exhibited a recurring behavior of bullying.
In a different assertion, Freedman suggested that if Blake truly experienced sexual harassment on the set, it’s unlikely she would have gone back to work on the movie.
A skeptical Judge Liman said: ‘isn’t that what’s stated in his complaint?’
Gottlieb stated a refusal, emphasizing that attorneys should refrain from making personal attacks against the other party’s character.
He mentioned that the unauthorized release of uncensored scenes from It Ends With Us was ‘especially troubling’ as it might ignite a ‘competitive situation’ where legal professionals would need to make public responses for every revelation they face.
If safety barriers aren’t installed… we (the attorneys) must engage in debates on various platforms, explaining the meaning of specific documents or videos.
Freedman countered by saying that the conversation wasn’t one-sided, and he proceeded to present figures provided by Blake’s legal team to the judge.
Following their statements, Judge Liman remarked that Freedman stretched the argument slightly more than what Blake’s legal team presented.
The judge announced that he would be enforcing a rule, often called Rule 3.6, which prohibits attorneys from releasing any comments outside the courtroom that might sway the jury’s decision.
Initially, Judge Liman expressed reservations about it, but once both parties consented, he ultimately decided to accept the proposal.
He expressed his belief that the parties involved will adhere to their ethical duties. He doesn’t foresee this situation escalating into complex legal disputes stemming from a lawyer’s remarks.
‘Both have said a lot in the pleadings that give the public plenty to feast upon’.
Freedman attempted to voice his dissent, saying, “I don’t wish to argue like two preschoolers using ‘they started it,’ but as soon as a statement is made, it becomes a truth, and there seems to be no room for contest.
‘We didn’t initiate this situation, but you’re finding yourself losing items without the option of legal resolution.’
Judge Liman cautioned that if neither side adhered to proper conduct, he might advance the trial date from March of the following year.
He said: ‘I’m not going to do that, I’m convinced the parties need the time for discovery.
However, if it comes to pass that this matter becomes publicly disputed in a manner which may bias the chance for a fair trial, one option available to the court is to expedite the trial date instead.
‘That’s something that is out there. I don’t want to do that.’
Previously during the proceedings, Gottlieb (who is representing both Ryan) expressed his intention to request a court-issued protective order for future filings. This protection would safeguard the privacy of the couple’s famous acquaintances.
It’s possible that Taylor Swift is among those mentioned, since she was cited in Justin’s grievance, even though he didn’t explicitly mention her name.
In this situation, it’s likely that the protective order we’ll establish will suitably address the unique aspects of the accusations, considering the prominence of certain people implicated.
‘There is a significant number of high profile individuals on both sides.
Paying special attention to the concerns and requirements of external parties will be crucial in this situation.
Gottlieb mentioned his intention to look for safeguards deemed crucial, especially when dealing with cases involving a large quantity of potentially leaky substances.
He said: ‘We do intend to propose a protective order in this case.’
Judge Liman concurred, pointing out that before all the other parties had been identified, “there were already quite a number of notable figures” involved.
Justin’s lawyer Bryan Freedman said he would be prepared to agree to the order.
Additionally, Gottlieb discussed the topic of discovery, emphasizing that it would reveal substantial insights into the tactics employed by Justin and his co-defendants in manipulating and advancing their counterattack plan through various media outlets.
He additionally discussed locating information regarding people possibly compensated for holding specific roles in the public sphere.
As a lifestyle expert speaking on behalf of my client Justin, I humbly requested the honorable judge during today’s initial court hearing to expedite the proceedings with utmost urgency. The reason being, my client and his team are enduring intense hardships, and we yearn for a swift resolution to alleviate their suffering.
