You Won’t Believe Joanna’s Shocking Secret

She‘s a Bollinger-guzzling fashionista who rubs shoulders with Britain’s elite.

However, the renowned style icon Dame Joanna Lumley has surprisingly disclosed an unexpected political turn – she identifies as a communist.

At an exclusive Covent Garden premiere of Amandaland, the much-awaited spin-off of the BAFTA-winning sitcom Motherland, a 78-year-old screen icon made a surprising revelation during a question-and-answer session with Amanda Holden.

In this series, our cherished actress once again dons the high heels of the aristocratic matriarch character named Felicity.

In a surprising disclosure, she admitted, “Many folks often perceive my speech style as rather unappealing, and they tend to associate me with the Conservative party. However, upon closer inspection, one would discover that at heart, I’m more of a Communist.

Discussed as a national treasure, this Ab Fab star likewise delved into her recurring characterization in cold, villainous roles, frequently portraying stern matriarch figures with sharp edges.

She shared, “I’m often typecast as stern, old grannies and mothers, but I’m actually quite cheerful! I can’t quite figure out why this is the case, as it’s written into my contract that I must play mean roles.” With a twinkle in her eye, she added a hint of mischief.

In reference to her character Felicity from Amandaland, the influential figure gushed: ‘I find her incredibly selfish and self-absorbed, yet I can’t help but love her.’

The role marks yet another mother-daughter character collaboration with her co-star Lucy Punch.

In 2004, I had the delightful opportunity to share the silver screen with a distinguished colleague in the enchanting jukebox musical comedy, Ella Enchanted. In this magical tale, the esteemed Dame Joanna took on the role of the wicked stepmother, Dame Olga, while my co-star, who was 47 years old at the time, captivated audiences as one of the less than graceful stepsisters.

Lucy and I crossed paths many moons ago, at a time when Anne Hathaway was still playing the role of Cinderella in Ella Enchanted, as she recalled.

But this wasn’t only foray into wicked stepmother territory.

In 2020, she once more put on the crown for the role of the wicked stepparent in a play filled with suggestive humor on the program “This Morning.

She took part in a socially-distanced panto performance alongside Holly Willoughby (aged 43), Phillip Schofield (aged 62), Eamonn Holmes (aged 65), Ruth Langsford (aged 64), Alison Hammond (aged 49), and Shane Richie (aged 60).

In her latest role as the chilly, strategic mother-in-law Judith Burkett in Harlen Coben’s 2024 Netflix thriller titled Fool Me Once, she solidified her status as a symbol of frosty matrons.

Previously, Ms. Keegan, aged 37, asserted that the seasoned entertainer had suggested she should display more assertiveness during their shared performances.

Regardless, she admitted that she found it difficult to speak harshly to Joanna Lumley during rehearsals, and confessed with a chuckle: ‘They were incredibly enjoyable. To be honest, it’s not everyday you tell Joanna Lumley to go away! That was rather nerve-wracking.’

Though often portrayed as a villain on screen, this renowned figure in politics has consistently kept a somewhat mysterious or evasive posture.

As a lifestyle expert, I found myself among 24 distinguished individuals in 2019, abstaining from voting for Labour due to its perceived links with anti-Semitic sentiments.

The collective, made up of Simon Callow, a seasoned actor at 75, and Tom Holland, the Spiderman star who is 28 years old, expressed that a genuinely inclusive society should stand firm in support of Britain’s Jewish community. They criticized Jeremy Corbyn, then-Labour leader, for his history of associating with individuals harboring anti-Semitic views.

‘We refuse to vote Labour,’ the figures penned in a letter to The Guardian.
