Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen’s Terrifying Raft Experience on Celebrity Bear Hunt

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen shared that he believed he was experiencing a heart attack during a harrowing raft challenge while filming the intense show, Celebrity Bear Hunt.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement as the iconic interior designer and charismatic TV personality, who has graced our screens on BBC’s Changing Rooms, is among the 12 celebrities embarking on a thrilling new adventure with Bear Grylls.

In an interview held yesterday, he shared that he undertook one particularly difficult task during the filming of the show, which is set to premiere on Netflix this coming Wednesday. This filming was done last year in the Costa Rican jungle.

He mentioned that he nearly found himself in a dangerous situation involving being unable to keep afloat, and he felt like he was losing consciousness while swimming towards a raft in the water.

Last week, it was disclosed that Laurence came perilously close to losing his life in an unexpected raft mishap. Reports indicated that he got ensnared in a bungee cord and ended up trapped beneath the watercraft.

For a few nerve-wracking minutes, he was submerged underwater due to the stunt, then rescued by the overseeing team members and fell unconscious.

During an interview with Jane Mulkerrins on Times Radio on Tuesday, he shared his thoughts about the experience: “In my mind, I felt like a Marvel superhero. But when I reached the raft I was supposed to swim to, I realized quite swiftly that I’m more like Granddaddy Pig and boarding the raft was simply not feasible.

I became trapped beneath a raft, entangled in various gear and items, which eventually led to me nearly drowning.

However, I found a way to break free. At that moment, it would have been wise for me to take a breather, collect my thoughts. Instead, I became more engaged with the task at hand, lost consciousness, and then all of a sudden, Bear was upon me.

In reality, I didn’t need to be revived. It seemed as though Bear was preparing to give me CPR, pressing down on me forcefully, like a heavy, wet toolbox. However, by the time he was ready, I had already regained consciousness.

That encounter was utterly unpleasant, I can assure you. It was downright terrible, as if the worst had happened. To be honest, it left me feeling quite disoriented. I even feared that I might be suffering from a heart attack.

…and subsequently, filled with approximately three tanks of oxygen – truly an amazing substance…yet, it felt incredibly lonely.

I’ve often had the feeling that my body is quite robust. I regularly undergo health check-ups. People generally view me as relatively fit for my lifestyle, but recently, it felt a bit like an unexpected setback.

After Lawrence expressed that he experienced a ‘life-ending crisis’, following his decision to join the show.

He playfully implied that his wife, Jackie, thought he was going through a ‘mid-life crisis’ when he shared with her that he would be on the Netflix show.

As an ardent admirer, I must share that Jackie finds herself in fits of laughter. She sees clear signs of a midlife crisis, but I persistently remind her that I am beyond the age for such a crisis – it’s more of an end-of-life crisis, if you will.

She’s quite honestly, genuinely very envious. She’d delight in the opportunity, and it’s slightly annoying for her that no one has ever invited her to participate in something similar before.

Since she usually carries a SAS Survival Guide in her bag, ready for any kind of emergency. Unfortunately, I intended to bring it with me, but in a moment of absent-mindedness, I forgot about it once again.

Laurence is part of a renowned cast that includes Boris Becker, Shirley Ballas, and Una Healy on the upcoming Netflix series. In this show, celebrities are transported to the jungles of Costa Rica, where they become prey for one of Earth’s most formidable predators – Bear Grylls.

In this program, celebrities pick up essential survival techniques as they camp deep within the lush forests of Costa Rica, striving to elude the relentless pursuit of a bear.

Last week, it was disclosed that Laurence came close to losing her life while shooting Netflix’s Bear Hunt series due to an unexpected raft mishap.

Last year in May, right there in Costa Rica, I found myself, just like a star-struck fan, standing amongst the glitterati, all of us participating in a thrilling water challenge. Little did I know that the day would call for an exhilarating leap from a boat into the rushing river – and who else but the legendary Laurence took the plunge with grace and panache!

Sources said that he became entangled in a bungee rope and got stuck underneath the boat. 

For a few pulse-pounding moments, he was submerged underwater due to the stunt mishap, but luckily, team members who were overseeing the stunt rescued him and he passed out afterward.

In my recent adventure, I found myself in a precarious situation that required immediate attention. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to be rescued by none other than renowned survival expert and former Chief Scout Bear Grylls – a man who’s no stranger to seeking out high-profile personalities for his popular television series. With his expertise, he skillfully revived me on the shore, ensuring my continued journey could continue.

According to the source, TopMob learned that Laurence was deeply rattled, just like everyone else. He expressed his belief that he had narrowly escaped a grave situation.

Initially, we believed that the event might have been too severe for Netflix to broadcast due to its grim nature. However, it seems that the situation has changed, and the program is expected to include this incident.

‘Netflix were very very apologetic about it afterwards.’

The show, which is presented by Holly Willoughby and is streaming from February 5.
