Imperial Fe receive late call up to second S-tier event at PGL Cluj-Napoca

The girls at Imperial get another shot against the world’s best.

This week, Imperial Fell will journey to Romania, filling in for FURIA at the PGL Cluj-Napoca tournament, which kicks off on February 14th.

In the past fortnight, Imperial Fe has made its second high-tier appearance, following their competition against top global teams at IEM Katowice last week. Meanwhile, North American squads like MIBR and paiN, who are just shy of the top two in the region, will seize the opportunity to surpass FURIA in the Valve Regional Rankings (VRS).

FURIA out of Cluj-Napoca due to Major visa concerns

On February 4th, PGL officially revealed that FURIA would not be participating in the event, as they had initially been invited, due to the team choosing to prioritize returning home to obtain necessary visas and documents for the Austin Major in the United States later this year.

In an unexpected turn of events, PGL found themselves in a situation requiring immediate action to find a substitute team for FURIA. The organizer opted to contact Imperial Fe, who graciously accepted the invitation. Eagle-eyed viewers might have spotted Imperial Fe’s withdrawal from CCT Season 2, which conflicts with the PGL tournament schedule.

Six out of the top ten ranked teams worldwide won’t be participating in Cluj-Napoca, as FURIA has withdrawn. Following quickly on the heels of IEM Katowice, many teams are opting for a brief respite or other competitions instead.

At Imperial Fe, the Valkyries are ready yet again for a chance to compete against top CS2 teams worldwide on LAN. This all-female team created quite a buzz when the season began last year, following their victory at ESL Impact, which earned them sufficient VRS points to secure invitations to premier events in 2025.

Last week during the IEM Katowice play-in, FURIA displayed potential as they tested their limits against a tough opponent. However, unfortunately for them, they were eliminated from the tournament rather abruptly by BIG. We’re eagerly anticipating the female team to secure their first series victory against male opponents.

With Ana “ANa” Dumbravă getting ready to don her gear in front of a home audience, Victoria “tory” Kazieva might make an appearance as well, and some lower-ranked teams are expected. Thus, it’s quite possible that Imperial Fe will secure their first best-of-three victory next week.

FURIA risk VRS ranking drop with Romanian absence

skipping PGL Cluj-Napoca by FURIA could be a risk, considering they were eliminated early at IEM Katowice. With other North American teams accumulating VRS points in Poland (and likely continuing at Cluj-Napoca), FURIA will have to recover strongly at their next competition.

If MIBR, paiN, and other Brazilian teams continue to attend major events while FURIA does not, there’s a risk that FURIA might not receive an invitation to the BLAST Austin Major – the tournament for which they are skipping Cluj-Napoca.
