Unbelievable Pain
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I found myself in an unexpected situation recently. I was swiftly escorted to Charing Cross Hospital in the heart of London, grappling with what I can only describe as the most intense pain I’ve ever experienced.
The speaker, aged 54, remarked that he had experienced a challenging week following an unpleasant wake-up with pain, which he discovered later was due to kidney stones, as confirmed by the medical professionals.
Richard shared that he needed to undergo a surgery to get rid of a kidney stone because of the ‘incredibly intense’ discomfort he was experiencing.
On The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Richard shared his experience from the past week: ‘I’ve been through quite an ordeal. One night, I woke up with discomfort and discovered I had passed a kidney stone.’
Among all experiences, this one stands out as the most excruciatingly painful I have ever endured. However, despite what the doctors assert, I find it hard to fully agree that it surpasses the pain of my childhood.
I cannot express how excruciatingly painful the experience was, yet my heartfelt gratitude goes out to every individual at Charing Cross Hospital. They were simply exceptional. I was administered liquid morphine, but unfortunately, it failed to alleviate the pain.
‘Then I had an operation and they took it out. So I have the absolute joy of not being in pain.’
Following the surgery, Richard was advised by doctors to boost his fluid consumption to minimize the possibility of forming another kidney stone later on.
He added: ‘That I can do, no major lifestyle changes, just drink more water.’
As per the NHS, it is common for kidney stones to form in one or even both kidneys, with individuals between the ages of 30 and 60 being the ones affected most frequently.
Kidney stones typically occur within the kidneys or in the ureter, which serves as a conduit linking the kidneys to your bladder.
If ignored, they could become quite uncomfortable and potentially cause kidney infections or impair kidney function.
After Richard disclosed in December the unexpected explanation for his departure from the popular series Child Genius, he delivered a surprising critique of Channel 4.
The author quit his presenting role on the programme back in 2019.
Child Genius premiered in 2013 and ran for six successful series.
The television presenter has lately disclosed details regarding the show, clarifying that contrary to the portrayal in the edited version, the parents of the participating children were actually not pushy, but instead, they displayed a great deal of understanding and support.
On The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Richard mentioned that he eventually chose not to continue with it because the children on the show were simply outstanding.
‘They were just great and also, by the way, almost all the parents were great as well.’
He commented: ‘Many of the parents seemed perplexed, wondering what they had taken on. Some of the children displayed intense competitiveness.’
‘And the parents were also competitive too and I liked hanging out with all of them.’
The star then took a swipe at Channel 4.
He said that ‘the show was edited in such a way to make the parents look like helicopter parents’.
In the podcast, he mentioned that there was a duo who shared a remarkable connection on the set. However, during the show’s editing process, the father’s character was depicted as overly protective or intrusive, much like a helicopter parent.
Over-involved and controlling parenting is another term for a style of parenting where parents excessively manage and dictate their children’s experiences.
The term signifies a style where parents closely monitor or interfere excessively in their children’s lives, much like a hovering helicopter.
