Marvel star is adapting cult classic game into a movie
Marvel star Simu Liu is set to adapt classic video game Sleeping Dogs into a movie.
Last week, Liu made it known through X that he’s eager to transform the game into a movie and has been proactively presenting his film idea to studio heads.
He commented, “It’s rare for movie concepts to progress from the initial idea stage to production approval.” He added, “Dealing with executives who don’t grasp the intricacies of the process can be frustrating.
“First a movie, then a sequel game for everyone… that’s always been a dream.”
It appears that Liu’s persistence has finally borne fruit, as IGN reports that the movie is currently being worked on. Liu is anticipated to be both the producer of the project and the main character, Wei Shen.
Introduced in 2012, the game “Sleeping Dogs” tells the story of Wei Shen, a police officer who goes deep undercover in Hong Kong to penetrate the city’s notorious Triad criminal organization.
Back in 2017, it was initially announced that Donnie Yen from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ would be the lead actor in a movie adaptation.
Previously, Yen informed Polygon that the project had been halted, as he had invested considerable effort and resources into its development.
He mentioned that he had put in considerable effort, resources, and even his personal funds, collaborating extensively with these producers to acquire some drafts and certain rights.
For a long time, I’ve been patiently waiting, and now more than ever, I’m eager to make it happen. My mind is brimming with ideas about what could be, but alas… well, you understand the unpredictable nature of Hollywood, don’t you? Over the years, I’ve invested a significant amount of time into this project, and unfortunately, things didn’t turn out as planned.
There’s still a chance for Yen, as Liu stated he would make Yen his initial call if the movie gets approved, according to X.
This version attempts to simplify and make the sentence easier to understand by breaking it down into simpler components and using more conversational language.
If we manage to succeed, I’ll first contact Donnie, followed by Will Yun Lee, the initial voice actor of Wei, according to his message.
