Breast cancer survivor Sarah Cawood shares topless video to encourage self-checks
In a heartfelt move, I’ve chosen to share my journey by posting a video without a top, showcasing the scars left behind from my breast cancer surgery.
Or, more informally:
I recently posted an uncovered video, proudly displaying my breast cancer battle scars for all to see.
In the September of 2022, I, a 52-year-old television presenter, disclosed my diagnosis of stage one breast cancer. A lump was found during my regular mammogram by medical professionals, leading to this life-altering discovery.
In my own words, I recently embarked on a health journey that involved surgically removing a lump from my body, known as a lumpectomy. Following this procedure, I had a sentinel node removed for further examination. Subsequently, I underwent radiation therapy and will be continuing with long-term hormone treatment as prescribed by my healthcare team, to ensure the best possible outcome.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Sarah showcased the results of her recent treatment and urged others to regularly examine their breasts.
The video captures a star without a bra, grinning at the camera, as she conceals her nipple and lower portion of her breast using her hand.
Afterward, Sarah raised her arm completely to exhibit the scar that ran across both her chest and upper arm, where it was encircled by a heart-shaped red mark.
In her post caption, Sarah emphasized that her scars serve as a reminder of the significance of early detection, while also expressing her admiration for the exceptional capabilities of the National Health Service (NHS).
In my own words: “I proudly bear the scars from my lumpectomy and sentinel node removal, reminders of an early detection of breast cancer. These marks serve as a testament to how crucial it is for the prognosis when this disease is caught early. They also stand as a symbol of my admiration for the NHS England – a beacon of care that deserves unwavering protection.
As a diligent follower, I encourage everyone to closely examine their own health symbols, gentlemen and ladies alike. If there’s anything that leaves you uncertain, promptly seek a professional consultation for clarification. After all, you are the best judge of your body. In case you feel dismissed or unsure about a diagnosis, don’t hesitate to request a second opinion from another medical expert.
It’s crucial to understand what typical lumps and bumps are in your breasts, as it’s often preferable to prevent problems rather than having to treat them later on.

Her post sparked numerous heartfelt responses from supporters and other breast cancer survivors alike, as they opened up about their personal journeys and scars.
Sarah’s recent social media update follows an emotional breakdown she experienced in May, triggered by concerns that her cancer might have recurred.
Curled up next to my slumbering 12-year-old treasure, Hunter, I’m emotionally overwhelmed as I share this video. Last week, I underwent a mammogram and scheduled an appointment for more tests. Deep down, I can’t help but worry that perhaps my anxiousness is unwarranted.
She wrote: ‘Today, I received a text scheduling an appointment for Tuesday… I had a mammogram two weeks ago and expressed my worries about some spots on the other breast to the nursing staff, so I’m unsure if this appointment is related to those marks (which have now vanished) or my recent mammogram.’
I’m quite confident that it’s the second option, but the combination of it being a holiday weekend and the close proximity of the appointment has me feeling quite anxious.
‘It never leaves you. The fear that It’s Back.’
Sarah confessed that she’s “more content than she’s ever been before,” acknowledging that the “specter” of cancer “stays with you in some way.
She went on saying: “I don’t think there’s a need for concern, but let me share something with you: I’ve never felt as happy as I am now.
I’m incredibly happy with my life at the moment and I hope it continues for a long time. Unfortunately, there’s this persistent issue that keeps cropping up, much like an unwanted shadow on a bright day, making me fear that it could spoil the wonderful journey I’m currently enjoying.
I’m expressing my concerns, likely unnecessarily, because I feel compelled to share this truth: cancer isn’t something you just get rid of and move on from. While the physical disease may disappear, the fear and anxiety linger for life. Here’s wishing for a lengthy and thriving future for all.
‘To all my pink sisters: I’ve got you, I feel you, I am you.’
Previously, Sarah shared that back in 2022, following a regular mammogram, medical professionals found a lump in her breast during the follow-up examination, which led to her diagnosis.
After an ultrasound and a biopsy, she learned the lump wasn’t a cyst, causing her to fear the possible outcome as she prepared to consult with the surgeon.
Even though she received a cancer diagnosis, Sarah, who resides in Essex with her spouse Andy Merry and their two kids, was told by doctors that the condition could be treated.
The TV host made a lighthearted comment, likening it to “the premier league of breast cancers” in comparison to the well-known “If Carlsberg did” adverts from the 2000s.
