Chappell Roan Demands Record Labels Pay Artists Healthcare and Liveable Wage at Grammys
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Chappell Roan was highly commended by her fans for her passionate and impactful speech during her win for the Best New Artist award, which took place on a Sunday.
As a die-hard devotee, I’m ecstatic about the impassioned plea from the Pink Pony Club sensation, aged 26! He’s urging record labels to prioritize artists’ wellbeing by ensuring fair compensation for healthcare and a livable income. This heartfelt message has stirred an ocean of admiration from fans like me on social media.
Stepping up onto the stage to receive her accolade, Chappell started by expressing gratitude towards her family, companions, and business associates. She then recounted the hardships she encountered when her initial record label let her go at a tender age.
As an ardent admirer, let me rephrase it in my own words: I, as a fervent fan, can empathize with her struggle when she expressed feeling stripped of humanity due to the way she was handled by her initial record label. In light of this, I passionately advocate for record labels to prioritize the well-being of their artists, ensuring fair compensation and health insurance coverage – basic rights that every artist deserves.
She declared: “If I were fortunate enough to win a Grammy and have the opportunity to speak before the influential figures in the music world, I would insist that record labels, who amass vast fortunes from artists, should provide fair wages and healthcare, particularly for emerging talents.
Since I was signed at such a young age, I was actually signed as a minor. Upon being dropped, I found myself without any professional work experience to my name, much like many others. The pandemic made it particularly challenging to secure employment, and unfortunately, I struggled financially to the point where I couldn’t afford health insurance.
Feeling deeply hurt, I found it heartbreaking to be so dedicated to my craft yet experience betrayal from the system and a sense of being treated inhumanely.
If my employer had considered me more, I would have received the necessary support from the company where I was putting all my efforts.
‘It’s important for record labels to view their artists as essential team members, providing them fair compensation, a living wage, healthcare benefits, and necessary protections.’
At the conclusion of her speech, Chappell posed a question that resonated with the audience at the Crypto.com Arena, saying, “We’ve got your labels, but do you have us?” This statement received a thunderous applause.
Her comments were highly appreciated by social media users as well, with one user commenting specifically: “What a memorable instance! Chappell Roan not only won her Grammy, but she also took the opportunity to advocate for artists’ rights.
‘Powerful words – hopefully, it sparks real change!’
Other posts included: ‘THIS IS VERY RESPECTFUL AND COURAGEOUS! It’s awe-inspiring to witness those artists in the audience standing in unison, in agreement. Her action was particularly brave given that such acts could potentially harm her reputation (also, she took a risk by doing this).’
‘No choice but to stan this fearless diva.’
Initially, Chappell kick-started her professional journey at a young age, sharing her music on YouTube, and she was signed by Atlantic Records back in 2015. However, they parted ways in 2020.

I’m incredibly filled with a sense of fullness and gratitude, it’s been quite some time. I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to the Grammys, all the songwriters, collaborators, producers, everyone who put in so much effort. This one is for Ms. Martell, let’s keep breaking barriers and pushing ahead. God bless, and thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Thank you very much.
