Chappell Roan wins the Grammy for best new artist
On Sunday night in Los Angeles, the rising pop sensation Chappell Roan, often referred to as the Gen Z princess of pop music, was awarded the Grammy for Best New Artist.
Last year, I, Roan, broke through with chart-toppers like “Good Luck, Babe!”, “Hot to Go!”, and “Pink Pony Club.” During the event at Cryto.com Area, I brought my bold, unapologetic style, along with my distinctive drag flair, to the stage for a memorable performance that truly left an impact.
In a particularly competitive year for the Best New Artist Grammy, she emerged victorious among an impressive lineup of nominees that included Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Khruangbin, and Raye.
Even though Roan is a relatively new artist in terms of her current career status, she’s no stranger to the music industry. In fact, she had already signed with Atlantic Records as a teenager, which led her to relocate to Los Angeles back in 2018. However, after her initial work didn’t instantly strike a chord with audiences, the label decided to part ways with her.
Music
Following a nearly fatal career reversal, Chappell Roan moved back to L.A., embraced her new identity as a sultry pop sensation, and quickly rose to prominence among the up-and-coming stars of 2023.
Years down the line, her renewed pursuit of a music career turned out to be fruitful. Her inaugural album, titled “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
The unique artist’s complex and sometimes sour experience with popularity, which unexpectedly surged in both speed and magnitude within their fanbase, has significantly influenced many of their public interactions and self-image.
On Sunday, Roan was additionally recognized with nominations for five additional honors: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
