Despite starting her film career over 40 years ago, Geena Davis appeared youthful and vibrant at a red carpet event on Tuesday, as if she were just beginning her acting journey.
The famous actor looked as young as ever at the Fashion Trust U.S. Awards in Los Angeles, a yearly event honoring up-and-coming American designers.
Actress Geena Davis, who first appeared on film with Dustin Hoffman in the 1982 hit Tootsie, was at the event following her 70th birthday celebration in January.
The actress turned heads on the red carpet at Nya Studios, wearing a stunning teal gown and black heels.
Geena Davis became a well-known actress in the 1980s with memorable performances in films like The Fly, Beetlejuice, and The Accidental Tourist, earning her an Academy Award along the way. She’s continued to have a successful career for decades.
The actress gained widespread recognition in 1991, especially after a memorable kiss with Brad Pitt in the hit movie Thelma & Louise, where she acted alongside Susan Sarandon.
She became even more famous in 1992 with the film A League of Their Own, where she starred alongside Tom Hanks and Madonna in a memorable and innovative role.
Davis recently revealed that she only truly learned to accept herself for who she is as an adult.
The actress, who is six feet tall, shared that she used to feel self-conscious about her height when she was younger. She admitted she once wished she was shorter, but eventually learned to embrace it as she got older.
She shared with People magazine that she’s been tall her whole life, even as a baby. Growing up, she wished she didn’t stand out so much and wanted to feel smaller. It wasn’t until she was older that she embraced her height and learned to be completely herself without apology.
Growing up, her own life inspired her to write “The Girl Who Was Too Big for the Page.” The book is meant to help young people feel confident being themselves, regardless of their body size or what they hope to achieve.
She shared that she wrote the book for children who feel they stand out – whether because of their personalities or their ambitions – and need to know it’s okay to be themselves and find their place in the world.
Davis shared that writing the book was a delightful experience, and they especially loved being able to create the illustrations themselves, which helped them truly bring their characters to life.
In 2022, the actress revealed she felt deeply ashamed before finally receiving a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Disorder.
She explained that she found out about her condition while in therapy; the therapist diagnosed her during their second meeting.
Actress Tamra Davis, who shares daughter Alizeh and twin sons Kian and Kaiis with her ex-partner Reza Jarrahy (they separated in 2017), revealed on the show Loose Women in 2022 that a therapist diagnosed her with ADD after only two sessions.
For much of my life, I felt deeply ashamed and believed I was flawed because I often struggled to begin or complete tasks.
I was initially embarrassed, but learning there was a valid explanation and that I hadn’t done anything wrong was a relief and quite insightful.
As someone who’s spent years observing what makes families thrive, I’ve always believed timing is everything. For me, having children later in life, in my 40s, was perfect. I felt truly ready to be fully present and engaged as a mom. Honestly, I didn’t always feel confident myself, but it fueled a real determination to raise kids who did believe in themselves. It was about breaking the cycle and giving them the strong foundation I wished I’d had.
Davis shared on Good Morning Britain that Susan Sarandon had a huge impact on her life, describing a time when she felt stifled by being overly polite and Sarandon helped her break free.
She remembered that meeting her completely changed her life. Growing up, she hadn’t known many women who spoke their minds so directly and honestly, without softening their statements.
Honestly, I used to be so careful, always second-guessing myself, constantly asking if what I thought was okay with everyone else. It was exhausting! I was basically just fading away, suffocating myself with politeness. I was way too worried about what others thought, and it was killing me inside.
Meeting Susan was like stepping into a completely new world. It wasn’t that people treated her any differently – everyone already adored her and everything about her.
I was really surprised by how genuine she was. She helped me understand what it means to live truthfully and fully appreciate the present.
