NASCAR: New championship favorite emerges as 2025 season nears

During the break between the 2024 and 2025 NASCAR Cup Series, Kyle Larson from Hendrick Motorsports and Christopher Bell of Joe Gibbs Racing have been identified as the top contenders predicted to claim the 2025 championship title.

Last year’s Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway didn’t include either of these drivers, but for much of the playoffs, they were frequently seen as the top contenders for the 2024 championship title.

With the 2025 racing season just around the corner, starting this very weekend with the pre-season Cook Out Clash exhibition race at the iconic Bowman Gray Stadium, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. Amongst all the drivers, one name stands out as the clear front-runner for the title.

Kyle Larson favored to win 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship

As a die-hard NASCAR fan, I’m excited to share that at FanDuel Sportsbook, Kyle Larson is given odds of +500 to clinch this year’s championship title. Chase Elliott comes close behind at +600. Among the contenders are William Byron from Hendrick Motorsports and Ryan Blaney from Team Penske, both of whom made it to last season’s Championship 4, with odds of +750 each. The anticipation is building!

Current title holder Joey Logano, who clinched last year’s championship even with a 15th position in the regular season rankings, is currently tied for sixth place with odds of +950. Notably, all of his previous appearances in the Championship 4 have been in years ending with two (i.e., even-numbered years).

Last year, Larson triumphed in six races, making him the series leader in wins, and he amassed the highest total points despite not participating in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Instead, he opted to compete in the postponed IndyCar race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which was delayed due to rainfall.

Full championship odds can be found here.

The opening of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series won’t happen for another fortnight, commencing with the 67th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 p.m. ET, which will be broadcasted on Fox. This historic event will mark the beginning of a 36-race season at the Daytona International Speedway.

For the Cook Out Clash, catch the live action on Fox at 6:30 p.m. ET tonight from Bowman Gray Stadium. Sign up for a free FuboTV trial today and make sure you’re there to watch it!
