T1, LCK, and South Korea dominate the rankings
In the world of League of Legends Esports, the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), known as the most competitive region, consistently provides 12 players among the top 20 rankings globally. Interestingly, a whopping 16 out of the top 20 players hail from South Korea, even those who participate in other regions such as Impact, Ruler, Canna, and Scout. This undeniably showcases the high global interest in South Korean talent within the League of Legends community.
One key aspect to note is that all five members of Team T1 – Zeus, Oner, Faker, Gumayusi, and Keria – are part of the team, demonstrating their remarkable achievements. With back-to-back World Championship wins in 2023 and 2024, T1 solidified their place among the top teams, attracting a massive following for its players in the game.
Leading the pack is Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, a figure universally recognized as a legend. After claiming victory at Worlds 2024, earning Finals MVP honors, and capturing his fifth World Championship title, he was also enshrined in the League of Legends Esports Hall of Legends. To add to this impressive resume, Faker has amassed numerous Esports Player of the Year awards this year, solidifying his place as the greatest ever. Take a look at all of Faker’s individual accomplishments.
Shifting our focus to China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL), Bilibili Gaming’s Knight and Bin have gained worldwide attention due to their outstanding performances during MSI 2024 and Worlds 2024. This dynamic duo played a crucial role in the team’s near achievement of the “Golden Road,” an honor reserved for teams who manage to win every major tournament within a single year.
Although they didn’t manage to secure victories in the two major international competitions in 2024, Bilibili Gaming remains one of the most honored teams of the year. They claimed championships in both the LPL Spring and Summer seasons, and ended up as runners-up at MSI and Worlds.
Rekkles remains a fan favorite despite western absence
As a gamer myself, I’m proud to be among the handful of Western gamers, including my teammate Caps from G2, who made it onto the list. And guess what? I came in second place, trailing just behind the legendary Faker. It feels great to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with such incredible players!
Although Rekkles didn’t play in a top-tier league in 2024, he still garnered fame in South Korea by playing support for T1 Academy alongside Smash. Now, as the AD carry, he is filling the starting bot laner role that was previously held by Gumayusi in the 2025 LCK Cup for team T1.
Rekkles’ fame grew even more when it was revealed he would be T1’s backup player for Worlds 2024. Although he didn’t play a game, his time spent in the team’s waiting room, offering advice and encouragement, endeared him to fans. Lifting the trophy together with T1 added to the excitement, significantly boosting his international fan base.
One notable addition is Kim “Canna” Chang-dong, a former LCK top laner who has played for teams like T1, Nongshim RedForce, Dplus, and now Karmine Corp in the LEC. Due to Karmine Corp’s enthusiastic and large fanbase, Canna quickly gained attention as one of the most discussed players within the Western gaming community.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve seen firsthand how passionate fanbases can impact a player’s popularity. With the 2025 preseason bringing about a host of big-name roster changes, it seems we’re in for some major shifts next year when it comes to rankings. So, who do you think will be the most sought-after League of Legends players in 2025?
