BBC Faces Crisis: Shocking Allegations Against Wynne Evans Spark Union Backlash
The BBC is once again facing turmoil due to the Wynne Evans controversy, as it was revealed that they have received allegations concerning his conduct from a broadcasters’ union.
Previously, the Broadcasting, Entertainment and Theatre Union (Bectu) expressed worries to the BBC regarding the participation of Evans in the Strictly cast.
As an ardent admirer, I couldn’t help but be shocked and dismayed when last week’s exclusive in The Mail on Sunday unveiled the disturbing reports about our beloved Welsh singer. His alleged suggestion of a vile three-way act involving his Strictly tour co-star, Janette Manrara, using the offensive term ‘spit-roast’, left me utterly appalled and questioning my fandom. The union’s subsequent intervention was indeed necessary to address this grave matter.
Bectu posed this question on social networks: “Does misconduct become an issue only when it’s captured on video?” The BBC declined to address this assertion, however, it was revealed that they will engage in emergency discussions with the spokesperson for Go Compare this week.
Renowned as the cheerful mustachioed character Gio Compario in commercials for a comparison insurance website, he is now affectionately known as “Grape Compare”.
Additionally, it has been disclosed that Evans, aged 53, dismissed from the Strictly tour following this report, has faced allegations from past work associates regarding improper humor targeted at women.
As one who had the privilege of performing alongside Wynne with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under Evans’ leadership, I must admit that his recent departure from the orchestra does not exactly take me by surprise.
‘Often his so-called ‘jokes’ backfired leaving audience members and his co-workers stunned.’
A week ago, the Minister of State disclosed dramatic video recordings capturing the Welsh opera star’s remarks about Miss Manrara, aged 41, during the unveiling of the tour.
Evans announced that he was temporarily stepping away from his BBC Radio Wales program, followed by an apology. Consequently, the BBC chose not to include him in their upcoming tour.
The Mail on Sunday has contacted Evans’s representative.
