Natalie Cassidy’s Heartfelt Reason for Leaving EastEnders After 32 Years Revealed!
Actress Natalie Cassidy, known for her long-running role on BBC One’s EastEnders, has spoken publicly for the first time about her choice to depart from the soap opera following over three decades of service.
As a lifestyle expert, I can share that after playing the iconic character of Sonia Fowler for over three decades, starting from the tender age of 10, I’ve decided to bid farewell as part of the show’s momentous 40th-anniversary celebrations. This decision was made last summer, a time when I reflected on my journey and felt it was the right moment to move forward.
During her initial conversation following the announcement, Natalie shared that reaching the age of 42 this year inspired her to show courage and venture into fresh possibilities.
She shared with The Sun, “This year, I turn 42, and I’ve decided it’s high time to be bold. I wouldn’t want to reach 70 and have regrets like, ‘I never gave that a shot.’
Furthermore, Natalie openly shared her profound affection for the series, stating: “This program has been deeply cherished by me since I was ten years old. It’s become a part of me – it resonates within me, it’s ingrained in my emotions.
Six months back, I found myself having a deeply personal conversation with Chris Clenshaw, the mastermind behind EastEnders. It was during that chat that I finally made up my mind to take a leap of faith and embark on a new journey.
The star expressed: ‘I’ve given it some thought recently. We had a delightful conversation with Chris during the summer. It’s simply thrilling.’
Speculation swirls that the upcoming anniversary specials might include a shocking explosion at The Queen Victoria pub, potentially leading to Sonia’s demise.
Nevertheless, Natalie remains silent regarding the outcome of her character, who stands accused of murdering Debbie Colwell.
After deciding to depart, Sonia has found it necessary to prevent excessive contemplation about her future events.
As a devoted follower, I understand that the outcome for Sonia lies with the higher-ups and the scriptwriters. All I can do is brace myself, take a deep breath, and trust that the story unfolds as intended.
1993 saw Natalie become a member of the EastEnders cast, joining the Jackson clan – composed of her fictional sister Bianca (played by Patsy Palmer), brother Robbie (portrayed by Dean Gaffney), and mother Carol (Lindsey Coulson).
She left the show in 2007 but made brief returns between 2010-2011 and in 2014.
In conversation about her past experiences on the set, Natalie reminisced about receiving a brand-new bomber jacket that she needed to deliberately age and wear down to resemble an old one for school.
Over time, several major cast members like June Brown, Pam St. Clement, Barbara Windsor, and Letitia Dean took her under their wing, offering guidance throughout her career.
In my journey, it was through my profound friendships with the iconic actresses June (Dot Cotton) and Wendy (Pauline Fowler) that I truly molded my experiences.
At the age of 18, she confessed that she used to share a glass of red wine with June at The Ivy, and later, when they were both in their seventies, they even took vacations together.
Despite residing with her two daughters and partner, Marc Humphreys, Natalie is continually identified whenever she’s out and about.
It’s become quite common for folks in her neighborhood to spot her running around town in her pajamas, which she finds amusing and openly acknowledges.
Reflecting on her 32-year stint, Natalie emphasized some major plotlines featuring Sonia, such as her teenage pregnancy and the heartbreaking death of her boyfriend, Jamie, on Christmas Day.
Among my cherished experiences, I particularly enjoyed shooting the hen party scene at Stacey Slater’s home. There was a palpable energy in that room filled with powerful, matriarchal women – a dynamic I believe contributes significantly to the show’s vitality.
