EastEnders’ Cheryl Fergison’s Shocking New Gig
At the inaugural event of a brand-new Chinese eatery in Blackpool, Cheryl Fergison will display her vocal skills.
In a heartfelt discussion, the EastEnders actress, aged 60 and famously recognized for her portrayal of Heather Trott, opened up about her monetary concerns, adding depth to this significant chance she’s been given to share her thoughts.
On Saturday, Cheryl extended an invitation via Instagram to her followers, encouraging them to meet up at the Dragon Lounge in Cleveleys. She mentioned that she would be there over the weekend, hosting events.
Evening everyone! This evening is the 1st of February, and tomorrow, it’s the 2nd of February, and I will be the host at the Dragon Lounge, located on Victoria Road West in Cleveleys,” she declared.
She expressed enthusiasm over the restaurant’s fresh leadership, operation, head chef, and dishes, inviting supporters to drop by.
She invited, “Enjoy the next two days with us! Feel free to drop by starting around 7 PM. You can show up spontaneously or give a heads-up by calling beforehand.
In a characteristic, humorous manner, Cheryl put her followers at ease by promising there would be room for all, playfully adding: “And if not, we might just have to get cozy and share some space, like sitting on each other’s laps!
With a cheerful farewell, she expressed her hopes for a splendid day for everyone. She also mentioned that the sun was brightening up where she was, looking forward to connecting with all of them later in the evening.
It comes after the actress revealed she was so strapped for cash she was forced to use food banks.
At a challenging time, the star admitted she needed assistance from a financial expert due to her tough financial predicament.
Cheryl, well-known for her role as Heather Trott in the BBC1 soap from 2007 to 2012, shared with The Daily Mirror that due to financial difficulties, a representative from Citizens Advice assisted her in obtaining food assistance at a local food bank.
The daytime drama actress shared that her current situation is vastly different from her days on the popular series, as back then she rarely considered the cost of items.
As I shared with the press, I found myself overcome with tears, a deep sense of embarrassment washing over me. The question echoed in my mind: How did I end up on EastEnders? How did I earn such a substantial income, only to find myself here?
One of the toughest challenges I faced was exposing my vulnerability, as it was incredibly hard for me. With no funds left for groceries, I was struggling to manage my finances and pay off numerous debts.
It turns out that Cheryl had been earning money by selling vintage EastEnders scripts, each fetching £50, and performing at a Chinese restaurant to make ends meet. This information emerged only recently.
Although she made a good income from her stint on the show, a mother of one was unfortunately diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2015, halting her career and making it difficult for her to bounce back.
The star had a hysterectomy, an unexpected procedure that led to both physical and emotional complications, causing her such distress that she resorted to self-harming behavior.
Cheryl revealed to the newspaper that she submerged herself repeatedly daily in boiling hot water as an effort to rid herself of her cancer, metaphorically speaking.
However, after receiving the go-ahead from her physicians, she ceased inflicting harm upon herself.
Although her health situation improved, Cheryl found herself struggling financially as she discovered she had very little money left. Her life, as a result, began to crumble around her.
But, refusing to let her difficulties overcome her, she reached out to Citizens Advice.
She shared that the experience turned out to be simpler than anticipated, and she felt a sense of relief upon discovering someone who could assist her.
She mentioned: ‘Even if they recognized me, they didn’t seem to acknowledge it, which I found marvelous. To me, it felt awkward.’
In a heartfelt manner, she commended the ‘angels’ for their work and expressed that the instant they welcomed her within and the assistance provided felt incredibly, extraordinarily, and overwhelmingly comforting – much like receiving an enormous, enveloping, and gentle embrace.
And the star left the centre with four bags of groceries, dog food and a bunch of daffodils.
Following a challenging ordeal, Cheryl shared that she found renewed determination to change her path and expressed excitement about the prospect of playing the role of the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, which is set to take place in Peterborough during Christmas 2024.
In this play, it became a special event as her son, Alex (age 25), whom she had with her first spouse, Jamshed Saddiqi, stepped onto the stage to portray the character ‘Buttons’.
Cheryl is hopeful that by sharing her struggles with finances, it might encourage others to also open up and ask for aid.
The actor from EastEnders mentioned that folks still seem taken aback when they spot her at her neighborhood Lidl, finding it unexpected that she shops at discount supermarkets.
Although some may still perceive her as feeling embarrassed, she openly expressed that she now no longer harbors that sentiment. A significant portion of her newfound self-assurance stems from the backing of her previous colleagues.
Cheryl openly admitted that Steve McFadden, known for his role as Phil Mitchell, has been a source of strength for her. Moreover, the late Barbara Windsor, portraying Peggy Mitchell, went above and beyond to assist Cheryl during her financial struggles and offered support throughout her cancer treatment.
In regard to Barbara, Cheryl spoke highly of her, saying she is exceptional. She went on to share a heartwarming story about how Barbara and her spouse, Scott, generously wrote checks to help me cover my living expenses when I was unable to work due to illness.
In her own words, she shared that one of the most valuable tips Barbara had offered her was always treating fans with kindness, as they may not fully understand the challenges you face.
Cheryl mentioned that she’s followed this advice, engaging in conversations with others during her cancer treatments at the hospital.
In the days ahead, the soap star expressed that she has no desire to return to the stress of ensuring there’s food on the table. She feels no embarrassment about offering items that are sought after by many – but her ultimate aspiration now lies in participating in I’m A Celebrity.
