Doctor Who boss shares disappointing response to popular fan hope

Doctor Who writer Steven Moffat has given a disappointing update regarding one big fan hope.

During the latest Christmas episode titled ‘Joy to the World’, the character Anita (played by Steph de Whalley) was presented, who becomes friends with the Doctor while working as a manager at the Sandringham Hotel.

Some spectators had harbored expectations for another appearance by Anita, but Moffat’s recent statements have effectively dashed those hopes, as he clarified that she was a unique character and not expected to return.

He said, “Just like remarkable items in ‘Doctor Who’, this is something you can trust, because I’m well-versed in ‘Doctor Who’ trivia – all fantastic things in ‘Doctor Who’ are actually consequences of budget reductions,” he shared with the Radio Times.

The spacecraft resembles a telephone booth due to cost-cutting measures. Essentially, it mirrors this likeness because, unfortunately, we couldn’t splurge on sending Ncuti Gatwa globetrotting in search of another accommodation. That’s what Anita represents in our scenario.

Moffat referred to their connection as something akin to an unconventional romance. He went on to say, “Anita is essentially a cost-saving measure, but in the context of ‘Doctor Who’, that means she’s one of the most remarkable events to occur.

Following the latest disclosure, it was discovered that the episode initially contained a more extended sequence where the Doctor employed his intellect to find a way to reach the higher levels of the Time Hotel.

The BBC series is now preparing for Gatwa’s second installment as The Doctor, and has recently announced a group of writers for upcoming episodes – specifically Juno Dawson, Sharma Angel-Walfall, Pete McTighe, and Inua Ellams.

In the United Kingdom, you can watch “Doctor Who” on BBC One, while it’s aired on Disney+ everywhere else. For those in the UK, classic episodes of “Doctor Who” can be found on BBC iPlayer.
