MultiVersus announces shutdown: Online Services to End in May 2025

MultiVersus online services will shutdown on May 30, 2025.

The multiplayer fighting game, MultiVersus, developed by Player First Games and Warner Bros., has announced it’s shutting down its online services. Even though Season 5 launches on February 4, 2025, this is the last content update for the game. On May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, all multiplayer functions will be permanently turned off.

From now on, users won’t have the opportunity to participate in online matchmaking, purchase battle passes, or attend live events within the game. However, those who log in prior to the service closure can still play offline. Additionally, the game MultiVersus will no longer be available for download from digital stores following the shutdown.

How to play MultiVersus offline after May 30 shutdown

Despite the fact that MultiVersus’ online functionalities are coming to an end, you’ll still be able to enjoy offline gameplay. Here’s how to carry on playing after May 30:

1. Make sure your console or PC is connected to the internet.
2. Download and install any available updates before disconnecting from the internet.
3. Once updates are complete, you can play MultiVersus offline as much as you like!

  • Log in between February 4 and May 30, 2025
  • Install the Season 5 updates.

This action triggers a save file on your device, enabling you to engage in single-player battles against AI opponents and local multiplayer with up to three friends. Anything you acquire or buy within the game can still be used offline. Yet, if you fail to log in before May 30, your ability to play the game will be completely eliminated.

End of In-Game Purchases

As a devoted fan preparing for the game’s closure, I want to share that the purchasing of Gleamium in MultiVersus has been halted as of January 31, 2025. Yet, any leftover in-game currency or character tokens can still be utilized until the shutdown on May 30. Therefore, if you haven’t already redeemed your character tokens, don’t forget to do so during Season 5!

Fans’ Reaction to MultiVersus Shutdown

Discussions about the game MultiVersus erupted within its community following the announcement, with many enthusiasts reflecting on both the positive aspects and areas for improvement. Some highlighted the transition from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5 as a substantial hurdle, while others voiced their displeasure over the need to grind to unlock characters. Furthermore, some players were let down by the exclusion of popular characters such as Ben 10, Harry Potter, Godzilla, Gandalf, and the absence of Scooby-Doo was seen as a notable oversight by many.

Regardless of some worries, MultiVersus stood out as a distinctive game that appealed to enthusiasts of fighting games and fans of Warner Bros. franchises alike. Although its online phase is coming to an end, the option to play offline means that players can still have fun with it locally among friends.

A Farewell to MultiVersus

At Player First Games, the developers gratefully acknowledged the community for their fervor and backing during the game’s progression. Even though the online phase is nearing its end, the offline mode of MultiVersus will remain as an enduring token of its influence.

We’d like to express our heartfelt gratitude to every player and supporter who has been part of the MultiVersus family, whether by playing or showing your support. The teams at Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games have poured countless hours of passion and dedication into this game, and we are deeply appreciative for the unwavering backing from the MultiVersus community during our shared journey.
