Matthew Lillard Will Return For ‘Scream 7’

Matthew Lillard is returning to the Scream series.

In the initial 1996 film, a 55-year-old actor played Stu Macher. Although one of the original Ghostface killers met his end when Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) smashed a TV on his head, it’s been announced that he will reappear in the upcoming Scream 7.

The news was verified by Deadline following the actor’s Instagram post, where he gave a sneak peek that showed him writing one of Stu’s well-known phrases with his hand.

All in capital letters, the writing stated: “My mom and dad are gonna be soo mad at me!! (sic)”

News has emerged that Scott Foley, known for his role as Roman Bridger – Sidney’s half-brother and a suspected Ghostface from Scream 3 – will rejoin the series in the next installment of the franchise.

Details about the comeback narratives for both actors remain undisclosed; it’s unclear if they will resume their previous roles.

Earlier, it was disclosed that an alternative version of “Scream 3” existed where Lillard’s character from the first movie would be alive, but his comeback was suddenly altered just before production.

In 2022, I shared with Vulture an interesting tidbit: “I was slated to work on Scream 3. I received payment for it, but not a substantial amount. However, in the end, I didn’t actually carry out the project because the concept revolved around me chasing high-school killers from prison – a role that never came to fruition.

Joey McHale has just been revealed to take on a leading role in Scream 7, portraying Mark Evans, who is married to Sidney. Meanwhile, Isabel May is set to play their daughter.

In the upcoming “Scream” series, the actor from the “Community” show is set to join Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Sam Rechner as a fresh addition. Meanwhile, fan favorites Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, reprising her role as Gale Weathers, will make their return in the chilling new movie.

Details regarding the plot of Scream 7 remain unclear, but it’s expected that Sidney Prescott will confront the terrifying figure of Ghostface one more time in this upcoming film.

The upcoming movie set to premiere in February 2026 won’t feature Jenna Ortega, known for playing Tara Carpenter in “Scream VI”, due to a scheduling issue with her Netflix series “Wednesday” that prevents her from being part of the slasher film.
