Lily Collins’ Heartwarming Birthday Tribute to Dad Phil Amid Health Battles

On his 74th birthday, Lily Collins gave a heartfelt homage to her father Phil, who is bravely fighting ongoing health challenges that have led to his retirement from the music industry.

35-year-old actress posted on Instagram a picture of herself with Phil, taken at the Duke of York Theatre where they were both during the run of the play “Barcelona,” which was staged at the West End theatre from October to January 11th.

In a shimmering silver-gold jumpsuit, the actress from Emily in Paris let down her golden locks and relaxed on the balcony. Meanwhile, Phil was dressed casually in a black zip-up fleece and matching pants.

Additionally, she shared a heartwarming photo taken during Phil’s induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1999, when she was only 10 years old.

At the LA event, she was spotted affectionately embracing her dad, with the Genesis musician grinning broadly in a smart casual outfit: a soft gray long-sleeved polo and a shiny silver timepiece.

Lily penned a touching message that read: ‘From a shining actress on the west coast to the London stage and all stops along the way – I am deeply thankful to have you with me and for the shared adventures, lessons, and affection that are ours now and in the future.’

‘The older I get, the greater I appreciate all the little, special moments spent together.

Dear Dad, here’s wishing you a joyous birthday! There isn’t a greater love or gratitude in me than what I feel for you, and celebrating you today, as well as every other day, is an absolute delight. Truly, my affection for you reaches to the moon and even beyond.

I recently shared a heartfelt moment with you all, as I posted a video from none other than Hotel Eden in Rome. There, my father’s signature and mine are now proudly displayed together on the hotel’s walls – a symbol of our enduring bond and shared journey in the world of lifestyle.

She grinned, expressing her pride: “Just like Dad, just like me. So honored to be alongside you today. Happy Birthday, Father.

Phil has been adjusting to his retirement, officially set for 2022, acknowledging just recently that the transition is yet to fully settle.

After enduring persistent neck and back troubles, the performer of In The Air Tonight opted to retreat from live performances.

In a touching moment from the latest documentary “Phil Collins: Drummer First,” the seemingly fragile musician emotionally reunited with his own drum kit, taking his seat at the instrument while clutching a pair of drumsticks.

In a video recorded in 2022, he openly shared his feelings about accepting that he can no longer perform at concerts, as well.

He commented, “It’s taking me a moment to fully process this, you understand. After all, I’m 71 and have dedicated my entire life to drumming. The idea of no longer being able to play is quite unexpected and jarring.

In the documentary, Phil shared his personal journey using his own voice, emphasizing his love for drumming over his singing accomplishments.

In that part of the movie, Phil expressed it this way: “I’m primarily a drummer who occasionally sings.

In a touching moment, Phil was accompanied by his son Nic, aged 23, as they both approached the drum set. During Genesis’s final tours, Nic had taken on the role of the drummer.

With drumsticks in hand after many years, an evidently astonished Phil confessed: “This feels incredibly unusual to grasp a pair.

If somehow tomorrow I find myself able to grasp drumsticks, I’ll definitely give it a try. It feels like I’ve exhausted all the opportunities life has given me.

After undergoing surgery in 2009, the musician experienced a loss of sensation in his fingers, limiting him to playing the drums with tape-attached sticks, much like before.

2009 saw him share with the Daily Mail that it was improbable he would play the drums again, explaining: “After playing drums for 50 years, I must now cease due to an issue with my vertebrae pressing on my spinal cord from the way I drum.

* After decades of practice, I find it uncomfortable – sometimes even painful – to grasp the drumsticks correctly. Back in the day, I had to tape them to my hands just to keep going.

Phil, who suffered an injury to his upper back vertebrae and consequently endured excruciating nerve pain, performed for the last time with his Genesis bandmates on March 26, 2022, at London’s O2 arena.

Back in 2016, I penned down my autobiography, and there I confessed my personal battle with alcohol addiction post-retirement. The following year, I openly declared that I was diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic. Unfortunately, an abscess on my foot developed due to diabetes, got infected, and required treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.

Additionally, he experiences a condition known as “foot drop” following spinal surgery, which necessitates the use of a cane for walking assistance.
