Aussie Music Festivals Crumble: Groovin the Moo and Splendour in the Grass Cancelled
Groovin the Moo has been cancelled for a second year in a row.
2025, oh boy! I can barely contain my excitement, but it seems there’s a bit of a hiccup with our beloved Groovin the Moo. On their social media platforms, they shared some news that had me feeling a pang of sadness. They’re taking a break in 2025 to work on perfecting a more sustainable model for Australia’s most cherished regional touring festival. I know it’ll be worth the wait! Can’t wait to groove again, Moo fans!
‘We will really miss seeing the smiling faces of all our beloved Moo Crew — and that means YOU!
‘In the meantime, which artist would you most like to see on a GTM lineup?’
Additional information about the cancellation wasn’t given. We’ve contacted the organizers to seek their explanation. (Daily Mail Australia)
The 2024 GTM festival was also cancelled, just two weeks after the lineup was announced.
At the time, poor ticket sales were cited as the reason for the festival being canned.
The cancellation serves as another significant setback for Australian music festivals, happening merely a few days following the announcement that Splendour in the Grass would not take place in 2025.
It was announced last week that the much-loved Byron Bay Music Festival will be cancelled again this year, making it the second consecutive year without the event.
Greetings everyone, I apologize for the recent silence, as we’ve just returned from a brief vacation – a long-awaited one! This message was posted on our social media platforms yesterday.
‘While other members of the festival crew continue developing exciting new music experiences for audiences in Australia, Splendour will need some additional downtime before making its return next year.’
The 2024 Splendour festival, initially planned to showcase artists such as Kylie Minogue, G Flip, Tash Sultana, and Fontaines D.C., was abruptly canceled just a few days following ticket sales launch. The organizers attributed the sudden termination to unforeseen circumstances.
2026 might not be the year we’ll see the festival make its comeback, but rest assured, organizers are asking us, the music enthusiasts, to consider this pause as a moment for regrouping. We aim to return, stronger and more spectacular than ever before, once the right moment arrives.
The tone of the statement became more optimistic as the Splendour organizers mentioned that there are many big events planned for the future.
They mentioned to stay informed and alert in the upcoming months, as they’re eager to reveal what they’ve been developing!
‘Stop lying Splendour, you’re never coming back,’ one person commented.
In a different conversation with Rolling Stone, the team at Live Nation expressed their backing for the Splendour festival crew to reintroduce Splendour in the Grass whenever they deem appropriate.
Music enthusiasts and organizers have been eagerly anticipating the comeback of the flagship festival this year, and the rapid responses on social media platforms are pouring in.
‘Well, there goes our youth. No more Splendour,’ added another.
‘You won’t be back. Bye Splendour and thank you for the life changing memories,’ added a third.
Another person shared with everyone, “That’s all she wrote, it’s no more.” To which they responded, “We appreciate the moments shared and being informed in advance. This means we can simply shrug it off and book our tickets for our winter festival trip to Europe instead!
