78-year-old singer-actress Marianne Faithfull, as confirmed by her representative, has passed away, leaving the world in sorrow.

A flood of tributes has come in for the celebrity, known for songs like “As Tears Go By,” a composition penned by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones.

Apart from her musical ventures, she was also an actress, appearing in films like “The Girl on a Motorcycle” and various stage plays.

During the years spanning from 1966 to 1970, Marianne had an often-publicized off-again, on-again romance with Sir Mick, a phase that ensued after his separation from model and actress Chrissie Shrimpton. (Or) From 1966 to 1970, there was a well-known on-and-off relationship between Marianne and Sir Mick, which started following Mick’s breakup with model and actress Chrissie Shrimpton.

In 1967, she became well-known for being discovered without any clothes, only wrapped in a blanket, during a notorious drug raid at the rural home of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richard’s residence, known as Redlands.

It’s said that Marianne and Mick started dating around 1966, following the release of her popular song “As Tears Go By” in 1964, which they both collaborated on with Keith Richards.

Stories abounded about an abundance of drugs, and it became notorious that Marianne was found unclothed, only covered by a fur blanket.

Tales spoke of drug use in excess, and it’s well-known that Marianne was found without clothes, but wrapped in a fur rug.

She was present during the Sussex police’s visit to Richard’s residence, Redlands, yet she wasn’t apprehended personally. However, she made an appearance in court each day to stand by Mick.

For four years, starting from 1970, she was in a relationship with Mick. However, she attributed the breakdown of that relationship and her later dramatic fall from grace to the drug trial that ensued.

She had shared with Q magazine earlier that the drugs raid had a profound impact on her. It not only strained her relationship but also led to her struggling with drug addiction four years later, ultimately finding herself homeless. When asked if she blames anyone or anything for this turn of events, she acknowledged that she does hold the Redlands incident responsible.

In 1968, Marianne discovered she was pregnant after living with Mick. Unfortunately, at seven months into her pregnancy, she suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage; they had intended to call their baby girl Corrina.

The romantic relationship between Mick and Marianne significantly influenced their music careers, and it is said that this connection even sparked inspiration for the Rolling Stones’ song “Sympathy for the Devil.

The album “Beggars Banquet” by the rock group was similarly influenced by a book titled “The Master and Margarita,” which Marianne had given to Mick.

Frequently associated with being a muse for The Rolling Stones, this actress and singer was also instrumental in creating hits such as “Wild Horses” and “I Got the Blues.” Prior to collaborating on “Sister Morphine,” she provided inspiration for these songs.

However, it appears that the musician’s romantic journey wasn’t always tranquil, as rumors suggest there were numerous extramarital relationships taking place in private.

It is said that while Mick was involved with Anita Pallenberg (who was Keith’s partner), Marianne allegedly responded by becoming romantically involved with Keith.

Following the breakup with Mick, Marianne experienced a challenging phase in her life. She found herself without a home and grappling with drug addiction.

She spent two years on the streets of Soho while addicted to heroin before living in a squat.  

In the year 1979, Marienne came back to put out her acclaimed album “Broken English.” Today, it is often hailed as a classic.

In recent years, Marianne’s voice was used in the 2021 remake of Dune and 2023’s Wild Summon.

Marianne sadly died today in London, surrounded by her cherished loved ones. Her absence will be deeply felt.

Paying tribute, JK Rowling wrote on X: ‘One of my favourite albums of all time. RIP Marianne.’

It’s sad to learn that the singer Marianne Faithfull, who was known for her work in the 60s, passed away at the age of 78. Tony Blackburn OBE expressed his condolences.

As a dedicated connoisseur of music, it’s hard for me to accept this news, but it seems that Marianne Faithfull, one of my cherished artists and a significant figure in The Rolling Stones’ rich history, is no longer with us.

1964 marked the start of Faithfull’s singing journey, as she was spotted and subsequently launched by Andrew Loog Oldham, who managed the Rolling Stones at that time.

Yet, amidst the accolades, I found myself in need of healing, seeking solace in rehab during that very decade.

The last album she released was a creative joint effort with Warren Ellis from Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, an instrumentalist based in Australia. This collaboration was named “She Walks In Beauty” and it came out in the year 2021.

Lately, she’s been experiencing a comeback and has gained the respect of fashion icons such as Kate Moss and Courtney Love.

In 2006, it was announced that she had made a full recovery from breast cancer.

In September, doctors in France identified a disease in the celebrity, leading her to delay her global tour.

However, the cancer was detected at an early point, and after undergoing surgery, she declared that she would restart her tour the following year.

At that point, she expressed it as follows: “It’s been an exceptionally unique journey, and in numerous aspects, very uplifting.

It hadn’t occurred to me just how many genuine friends I have. I feel incredibly fortunate, cherished, and I want to express my gratitude to everyone for their kind thoughts.

Two years following Faithful’s cancellation of her European tour due to a collapse on stage during a concert, she was diagnosed with breast cancer – a health issue that had arisen subsequently. (Faithful is a former smoker in this context.)

The singer was diagnosed with exhaustion and ordered to rest for three months.

2005 saw filmmaker Duncan Roy declare that I, [Your Name], had withdrawn from the on-screen adaptation of “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” citing a heart attack as the reason. However, this was a claim I refuted personally.

Born to a British army officer and an Austro-Hungarian Jewish baroness, Faithful was featured in Sofia Coppola’s movie titled “Marie Antoinette.”

She made guest star appearances as God in the TV sitcom Absolutely Fabulous.
