According to the medical examiner’s records, TerBlanche succumbed to a severe head injury resulting from a fall at ground level.
She also had a medical history of asthma, the coroner confirmed. Her death was ruled an accident.
On July 19, 2024, TerBlanche was discovered unconscious in her residence situated in Los Angeles. She was 51 years old. At that moment, publicist Lisa Rodrigo confirmed TerBlanche’s passing, expressing her deep sorrow to The Times through an email, stating she was “devastated” about her client.
Television
110 episodes of ‘All My Children’ saw the passing of actress TerBlanche from South Africa, who was famously recognized for her portrayal of Gillian Andrassy. At the age of 51, she bid farewell to life in Los Angeles last week.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve always been captivated by the essence of beauty she carried. She was more than just a client; she was a cherished friend whose radiant spirit graced my days. Sadly, I find myself missing her every day. Yet, I am honored to have known her and shared moments with her, a bond that transcends the confines of professional relations.
TerBlanche was primarily recognized for her role as Gillian Andrassy on “All My Children.” She became part of the soap opera’s cast in 1997, contributing to its extensive run as a daytime TV drama. Following numerous plot twists and over a hundred episodes, TerBlanche left the series in 2001 when her character met a tragic end due to a gunshot wound. In 2011, she made a brief return to “All My Children” for a single episode, reprising her role as a ghost version of Gillian Andrassy.
Besides her accolades, she had the honor of hosting South Africa’s “K-T.V.” during the early ’90s, starred in the series “The Syndicate”, and a brief titled “Germination”. She leaves behind her father and her sister.
On Wednesday, the medical examiner shared their expectation that they will finish the comprehensive report regarding TerBlanche’s passing by the month’s end (February).
