Karren Brady Turned Down UK’s First Celebrity The Traitors Due to Intense Work Schedule

Karren Brady disclosed that she declined an offer for the BBC program this year, even though it has gained widespread popularity among viewers worldwide and developed a strong following as a cult classic.

Lord Sugar’s right-hand person, aged 55, shared with TopMob that they were offered a role in the UK’s debut celebrity edition of The Traitors. However, due to their busy work commitments, they declined the chance to participate.

The West Ham vice chairman, who is also a member of the House of Lords, expressed that although she harbors no disdain for reality TV programs such as Strictly Come Dancing and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, she lacks the available time to participate in such competitions.

She can dedicate approximately five weeks each year to The Apprentice as the production for the series occurs during the summer, following the end of the football season.

Karren stated that she was invited to participate in the show “Celebrity Traitors,” but she has never watched it before. She doesn’t think it suits her style. It’s important to note that she holds nothing but respect for individuals who work in TV and film production, as it requires a lot of talent and dedication.

In my daily life, I maintain a busy schedule. I work full-time at West Ham, serve as a member in the House of Lords, engage with various other passions, and hold positions on multiple boards. However, taking on additional responsibilities isn’t feasible for me at this time.

I have no airs about reality TV, but I can’t present to my board that I’m participating in The Apprentice, only to follow it up with a stint on Dancing or the Jungle. I don’t think such activities are below me.

Karren acknowledges that if she participated in a program similar to Dancing on Ice, she would be petrified at the prospect of sustaining injuries.

Last year, she encountered Sarah Storey at the Sportswomen of the Year Awards following an unfortunate incident where the Paralympic athlete had to drop out of the ITV program due to a broken ankle.

Moreover, Karren acknowledges her own limitations, admitting that she frequently encounters balance issues. This difficulty stems from the extensive five-hour brain surgery she underwent back in 2006.

She mentioned that while she was with Sarah, Sarah had severely injured her ankle during Dancing On Ice at the Sportswomen of the Year Awards, where she herself served as a judge.

If I were on Dancing on Ice, I’d likely find myself in a full-body cast due to my lack of coordination. I’m aware of my limitations and it seems ice dancing isn’t my forte.

After my brain surgery, I’ve been struggling with a lack of balance, and it’s become challenging. For instance, walking down stairs makes me unsteady. It seems that activities requiring physical coordination aren’t really my strong suit at the moment.

Karren, who started working alongside Lord Sugar on The Apprentice in 2010, admitted that she finds it challenging to keep up with the show’s tough filming requirements as she enters her 50s.

The grandmother, who had a grandchild born by Sophia last year, commented: ‘When I initially joined this program, I was in my early 30s. Now, I’m in the middle of my 50s, and it’s becoming more challenging for me.’

‘When I was in my 30s, I was bouncing around, full of energy but now it’s getting harder.

The days can be quite lengthy. Four in the morning truly feels like four in the morning, and we often find ourselves starting work at that hour, with no signs of returning home until ten in the evening.

Midway through, you start feeling as if you’ve been gently heated up, almost lifeless. Exhaustion sets in deeply. I believe I won’t do this ever again…

Year after year, Karren comes back to the BBC series primarily due to her mutual passion for business with Lord Sugar and also because they have a strong professional bond.

Instead of inheriting the position of the mogul, she has pledged to depart from the show the moment he decides to step down.

She mentioned that her actions are closely tied with his; in other words, if he leaves, she will too. As for Alan, while it’s not necessary for him to host the show, there are a few things to note. Firstly, he doesn’t seek publicity or personal gain, neither does he require money. Instead, his motivation lies in simply enjoying what he does.

He has a fondness for him, which is why he takes these actions. He acts this way because he enjoys assisting, instructing, and nurturing young individuals. Moreover, witnessing fledgling businesses prosper brings him immense joy.”

Regarded for her stylish looks, Karren shared her best strategies for juggling a busy schedule while maintaining a polished TV image.

The businesswoman emphasizes choosing comfort over style, opting not to wear high heels in the boardroom contrary to some people’s assumptions.

She mentioned that she tends to favor certain brands, yet what truly matters to her is the comfort level. If an item isn’t comfortable, she won’t use it. For her, appearance doesn’t hold much significance; instead, it needs to provide warmth and comfort.

Instead of donning high heels, I always opt for sneakers. A closer inspection of The Apprentice’s boardroom scenes reveals only my sneakers. While I dress up with a business blouse, I prefer comfortable tracksuit pants paired with white sneakers beneath.

She mentioned that she seldom opts for dresses or skirts, instead preferring to always wear sneakers. Additionally, she isn’t fond of jackets due to their restrictive nature and typically wears a sweater or shirt instead.

‘At the end of every series all my clothes go to Dress for Success, my entire wardrobe.’
