After being initially unveiled seven months ago, Dolly Parton has decided to shelve her plans for a Broadway musical based on her life, opting instead for a smaller theater in her native Tennessee. The decision appears to be driven primarily by timing concerns.

In a recent press conference on Tuesday, the esteemed figure of 79 years stated, “Although time is moving forward, I don’t feel any signs of aging when I tell my husband [Carl Thomas Dean]. I believe I am not aging at all.

‘I’ve worked with numerous plastic surgeons throughout my life. Yet, what truly captivates me is the idea of turning my life story into a musical. I wish to witness this adaptation while I’m still alive so that I can personally supervise and ensure it’s executed in a manner that aligns with my vision, rather than leaving its interpretation up to others after I’m gone.’

Instead of postponing the debut of “Dolly: An Original Musical” in a New York City theater, previews are set to start on July 18 and run until August 17 for a limited engagement at Belmont University’s Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville.

On stage at the Fisher Center, Dolly was accompanied by acclaimed director Bartlett Sher, who led the production of McNeal featuring Robert Downey Jr., at the Vivian Beaumont Theater the previous year.

Apart from overseeing the production of the show, Parton collaborated on the script with two-time Emmy-winning producer Maria S. Schlatter, composing numerous original songs, and ensured to include some of your beloved hits as well.

This classic tale about rising from nothing to greatness offers viewers an insight into the extraordinary life of the renowned country singer, tracing her humble origins as a barefooted girl in the misty mountains of East Tennessee, all the way to her glamorous performances on the dazzling stages of Hollywood while wearing high-heeled platforms.

Dolly didn’t disclose the names of the three actresses selected following the nationwide audition, yet humorously mentioned, “If only I could have three copies of myself as often as I need to work!

Previously, Parton had been nominated for a Tony Award due to her work as the composer of the music for the Broadway play “9 to 5,” which was performed at New York City’s Marquis Theatre back in 2009.

In 1993, the Palace Theatre hosted a Broadway production called “Candles, Snow & Mistletoe,” where a song from the 11-time Grammy award winner, originally released in 1984 as “With Bells On,” was performed.
