Bizarre Ellen DeGeneres Connection in It Ends With Us Amid Blake Lively Drama

The movie “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, has left audiences puzzled due to various factors, including inconsistencies in the storyline and a reported legal dispute between the lead actors.

Despite the media frenzy surrounding the apparent rift between Lively and Baldoni during their icy press tour, where they deliberately kept their distance from one another, an unexpected plot twist in the film concerning Ellen DeGeneres has left viewers puzzled as well.

Over the span of a heartbeat or two, I couldn’t help but catch references to the legendary talk show host, peppered subtly throughout the Netflix release of the film adaption of Colleen Hoover’s blockbuster novel bearing his namesake, which graced our screens just last month.

For individuals unfamiliar with the novel, Lily Bloom, a character created by Lively, writes her diary entries as if they were letters to a past daytime talk show host, offering a means of coping during her turbulent childhood marked by a violent father.

Although the movie only briefly touches upon Lily’s affection for the comedian, who is a good friend of Ryan Reynolds, Ellen plays a significant role in the novel, essentially acting as a substitute parent to the main character.

During the initial phase of their relationship, Lily and her boyfriend, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), found a shared interest in watching The Ellen DeGeneres Show together after school each day.

They too share a bond while enjoying Ellen DeGeneres’ animated movie, Finding Nemo, as well as the inspiring line, “keep swimming,” within it.

As a die-hard admirer, I find myself deeply resonating with the character of Dory, brilliantly portrayed by Ellen DeGeneres. Just like how Marlin, played by Albert Brooks, stands as a guiding force for Dory, I see Atlas playing that role in my life too – helping me navigate through life’s complex and challenging situations.

In a touching moment from the book, I personally presented Lily with a copy of Ellen DeGeneres’ memoir, “Seriously…I’m Kidding,” and penned the encouraging phrase, ‘Just keep swimming,’ within its pages as a symbol of hope and perseverance.

In the book, there’s a phrase that Lily often recites to herself when facing difficult situations, however, this particular phrase was not included in the movie adaptation.

In the opening scene of the film, a Finding Nemo poster is shown on the wall of Lily’s adolescent bedroom, which seems to be a nod or reference to the well-known phrase.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I too, cherish my connections deeply and reflect them in meaningful ways. Just like Lily, I pay tribute to my significant relationships – much like my bond with Atlas and admiration for Ellen – by bestowing a special middle name, Dory, upon my precious daughter.

After the movie’s premiere, screenwriter and producer Christy Hall publicly addressed the choice not to include DeGeneres in the film.

She shared with Business Insider that a significant aspect of the book was emphasized as it played a crucial role. To honor this, they chose to highlight it. However, speaking from her own perspective, what she really wanted was to optimally utilize the limited space available in the publication, maintaining the focus on the central characters.

Hall pointed out that the invitation for DeGeneres to attend had no connection with the accusations she faced, as she was alleged to have created a harmful work environment and treated her staff unfairly.

As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the matter, I find myself questioning if we ever touched upon this specific point during our discussions. Our main objective, you see, was to pay tribute to the extraordinary work of art that Colleen Hoover has brought into existence. In light of this, it seemed crucial for us to keep our guiding star fixed on this treasured novel, no matter what external distractions or whirlwinds may have surrounded us.

Hall went on to say: “Rather than having Lily discuss Ellen for 30 seconds, I preferred that those 30 seconds be used for Lily conversing with Atlas instead. In essence, it was about keeping our attention centered on the main characters.

DeGeneres has not commented on being referenced It Ends With Us.

In the film, Ellen DeGeneres briefly appeared in a flashback sequence. This scene showed characters Lily and Atlas as teens, casually watching her television program for a moment.

In August, the main actors of “It Ends With Us” found themselves embroiled in a heated legal battle, a situation that has almost overshadowed the movie itself.

40-year-old Baldoni is filing a $400 million lawsuit against actress Rachel Lively, 37, her husband Ryan Reynolds, 48, along with Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane. The lawsuit alleges defamation, civil extortion, and false light invasion of privacy, among other charges.

Baldoni is suing Lively, Reynolds, and Lively’s PR person for a large amount of money due to claims of defamation, trying to scare him (extortion), and violating his privacy in an unfair way.

In response to an earlier legal action, he initiated a lawsuit worth $250 million against the New York Times for their coverage on the allegations made by Lively regarding his actions involving sexual harassment and plotting to tarnish her reputation.

In August, rumors first began to swirl of tension between the two stars.

Last month, Lively initially lodged a complaint against Baldoni, claiming sexual harassment and masterminding a defamatory campaign against her. Subsequently, she filed a lawsuit against him and others, asserting instances of harassment and a strategically planned assault on her reputation as retaliation for her public disclosure about the treatment she experienced on set.

Initially, Lively’s criticism sparked a strong reaction against Justin, culminating in a legal action he took against The New York Times for their coverage of the incident. Before taking legal action against them, he also filed lawsuits against Blake, his wife, and her publicist.

Amongst all her accomplishments, “It Ends With Us” holds a special place for me as one of Colleen’s most celebrated works. Yet, it’s not her only triumph; she boasts a rich collection of successful pieces that have garnered impressive sales figures.

Despite establishing a solid following at the start of her career, Colleen Hoover saw a significant increase in sales, particularly during the pandemic. Her books gained immense popularity on TikTok, and to this day, the #colleenhover hashtag boasts over 2.4 billion views.

Libby McGuire, who heads Colleen’s primary publishing house, described it as a situation similar to ‘Oprah’s book club in reverse’.

While Oprah Winfrey was influencing sales of two million books with her recommendations as an individual, now it appears that a group of 100 individuals are doing so, generating sales of four million books. McGuire expresses this intrigue by saying, “We’re all just waiting to find out what their next pick will be.
