In the world of ITV crime dramas, a fresh series titled “Protection” has unveiled its first glimpse, featuring its main actors Siobhan Finneran (known from “Happy Valley”) and Katherine Kelly (renowned for her roles in “Mr Bates vs. The Post Office” and “The Crow Girl”) as the prominent figures in the spotlight.
In a new six-part series, the storyline revolves around the consequences when the witness protection program malfunctions. This gripping plot has been masterfully crafted by Kris Mrksa, renowned for his critically praised crime drama on ITV, titled White House Farm.

The stellar ensemble of Protection includes Nadine Marshall (known for her roles in Sherwood and Trigger Point), Barry Ward (recognized from Bad Sisters and Save Me), and Chaneil Kular (a familiar face from Sex Education).
Detective Inspector Liz Nyles, portrayed by Finneran, finds herself in the midst of a critical security issue within her witness protection department. Balancing her responsibilities, she is not only dealing with this professional crisis but also managing personal challenges. As a single mother, she’s juggling parenting duties while simultaneously navigating a divorce and caring for an unwell father.
The summary states: ‘Faced with professional damage due to a clandestine relationship with a coworker, she is relentless in finding the real culprit behind police corruption. Liz will bend or break any rule necessary to restore her own and her lover’s reputation, protect her witnesses, and safeguard her family. She’s ready to go against the grain for the sake of truth.’

The text further reveals that she finds herself drawn into a perilous plot, where appearances can deceive.
ITV announced that the series is based on a genuine witness protection officer’s experiences, who also provided guidance for the drama’s development. The show, titled “Protection,” was created by the accomplished production team responsible for critically acclaimed shows such as “Des” (featuring David Tennant, Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins) and “The Long Shadow.
The upcoming series titled “Protection” is scheduled for its debut on ITV this coming spring. Additionally, viewers can stream it on ITVX.
