Daisy Ridley’s long-delayed Star Wars movie gets exciting update

The eagerly awaited Star Wars film starring Daisy Ridley, titled New Jedi Order, has gained fresh momentum following the appointment of a new screenwriter.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the forthcoming film has recruited screenwriter George Nolfi, known for his work on “The Bourne Ultimatum” and “Ocean’s Twelve”, to write the script.

15 years after the events depicted in “The Rise of Skywalker” (released in 2019), an upcoming film that was initially announced in 2023, will center around Rey Skywalker, portrayed by Ridley, as she guides a new crop of Jedi apprentices.

Under the guidance of documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, this upcoming film marks her initial foray into narrative feature films.

Prior to Nolfi, the screenplay for the movie was handled by several different writers. Some well-known scribes, however, stepped away from the project.

Initially, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were slated to write the script for the film, however, Obaid-Chinoy later took charge as director. Following this, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight stepped in, but he left the project in October 2024.

It appears that script issues are causing a delay in starting production for the upcoming “Star Wars” movie, with Shawn Levy’s currently unnamed project being the next “Star Wars” film to commence production instead. Shawn Levy is best known as the director of “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”.

It emerged recently that discussions are underway for Ryan Gosling to take on the main role, with Jonathan Tropper set to pen the screenplay.

2023 saw Ridley hinting at the future adventures of Rey, expressing his enthusiasm by stating: “I’m genuinely thrilled! The storyline is intriguing. I can’t wait to get my hands on a script as I don’t have any other details yet. It’s not what I was anticipating, but I’m extremely eager!

She mentioned that she’s familiar with a single movie’s plot, and she believes it will generate great enthusiasm among viewers, without providing more specific information.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, along with the entire Skywalker Saga, can be streamed on Disney+. You can also purchase it on DVD, Blu-ray, and even 4K versions.
