Boyzone Reunited Without Mikey: The Toxic Fallout and Mikey’s Mysterious Exit

On Monday evening, Boyzone enthusiasts were thrilled when Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, and Shane Lynch came together once more. This reunion took place at The Roundhouse, where they premiered their latest documentary series.

Boyzone: No Matter What” showcases unseen footage of band manager Louis Walsh along with Ronan, Keith Duffy, Shane, Mikey Graham, and the late Stephen Gately, complemented by interviews from people who were intimately acquainted with the band.

The boys appeared thrilled as they spotted each other at the red carpet event. On their arrival, Ronan (aged 47) and Shane (aged 48) exchanged a hearty hug.

As the two vocalists embraced and laughed heartily, they then stood with their bandmate Keith for photographs, also engaging in conversations with the media.

However, the ex-bandmate Mikey, aged 52, didn’t attend the reunion due to his disenchantment with the ‘poisonous’ music scene. Consequently, he decided to move to tranquil countryside Ireland and step away from the industry.

Once known as ‘The Silent One’ within Boyzone, he has disclosed that he hasn’t had contact with his ex-bandmates since their last performance, which was five years back. Furthermore, during a recent documentary series, he expressed no desire to revisit those times.

At the premiere, Ronan cut an elegant figure, donning a set of sleek black pants paired with a long, tailored coat that coordinated perfectly over a stylish brown cardigan with buttons.

The radio host accessorized his outfit by wearing shimmering black shoes with golden accents, which made his appearance seem less formal when paired with an underlayer of a white vest and multiple chain necklaces draped around his neck.

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but admire how effortlessly Shane pulled off his minimalist yet stylish all-black ensemble. He donned sleek black trousers paired with polished leather boots that perfectly complemented the overall look.

He paired it with a timeless black collar shirt, keeping some buttons undone and rolling up the sleeves to reveal a peek of his impressive tattoo collection.

As I strutted confidently down the red carpet at the age of 50, I couldn’t help but turn heads in my striking, sequin-covered red animal print shirt.

He completed his eye-attracting outfit by donning a pair of slim-fit black pants, featuring a silver belt with a chain, and stylish gold-patterned lace-up boots.

Keith completed his daring appearance with a tuxedo jacket, a necklace featuring a skull design, and a pair of aviator sunglasses with an orange tint.

In the mid-90s, Boyzone, with their six No.1 UK singles, five top-charting albums, and over 25 million records sold worldwide, stood just behind Take That as the most influential boy bands during the boy-band craze.

The three-part series about the Irish band, which was formed in 1993 and disbanded in 2000, will be broadcast on Sky Documentaries and NOW starting February 2. This documentary offers a glimpse into their rise to fame, internal conflicts, and unfortunate events.

In the show, Mikey discusses his choice to step back from the flashiness and fame associated with being in a band.

The band had their latest tour in 2019, and since then, they’ve been a quartet, following the tragic passing of Stephen in October 2009 at the age of 33 due to pulmonary edema caused by an unidentified heart issue.

The atmosphere among the group grew strained, as Ronan and Mikey found themselves frustrated with Shane and Keith’s focus on partying, which they perceived as a lack of commitment to the seriousness of the performances.

In simpler terms, Ronan stated that they were out and about the whole day, consuming alcohol throughout, making quite a mess, while Keith admitted that they had indulged in a more intense party scene than usual – it was an extreme night out for them.

On our last tour, tensions reached a boiling point, and I found myself caught up in numerous disagreements. The most intense of these heated exchanges occurred between Keith and Mikey right within our shared dressing room.

Keith chose not to elaborate, instead stating: ‘Certain events occurred that were unfair, and I prefer not to say any more about it beyond that fact.’

Mikey added: ‘I just wanted to get out and get away from that toxic environment’.

After wrapping up our tour with everyone in different changing spaces for the first time, I must admit, it shifted the dynamic noticeably.

Previously, Ronan made clear that he hasn’t been in touch with Mikey for a long time. In fact, Mikey himself acknowledged that he prefers not to dwell on the past, as he wants to focus on shaping his own future.

‘Since that last performance, I haven’t crossed paths with anyone.’ Despite this, I hold no ill will towards them; there are no grudges or animosity. However, I have no desire to return to the feelings I experienced for a long time.

If I continued to look at them, it might constantly bring up that memory, and my future is much too significant for me to spend it dwelling on the past.

Boyzone: No Matter What airs Sunday 2 February on Sky Documentaries and streaming service NOW.
