Scott Mills Opens Up About Heartfelt Emotions Taking Over Radio 2 Breakfast Show

Scott Mills shared his heartfelt response upon learning that he would be taking on the role as morning host for the Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

The long-time radio broadcaster, aged 51, will assume the highly regarded weekday timeslot starting from Monday, following Zoe Ball’s departure announced last year.

Scott, who is now being replaced by Trevor Nelson during his usual weekday time slot (2pm to 4pm), vividly remembered receiving the news of his new position and shared, “I broke down in tears while wearing my bathrobe. I truly wept.

In an interview with The Mirror, he mentioned that the news brought a touch of sadness, considering it was his 35th year in radio.

After I managed to compose myself following my outburst of tears, I found myself in a thoughtful state, pondering something along the lines of, “Ah, yes, I recall feeling somewhat disheartened that I didn’t land The Radio 1 Breakfast Show. But if I had then, would I be in this place today?

People keep sending me messages saying, “It’s inspiring to see a person like you thriving and performing better than ever at this stage in life, especially since I’m 55.” Frankly, it’s accurate. I never imagined this level of success at this point in my life.

‘I’m enjoying my career peak at my age.’

Last month, Zoe Ball concluded her stint on The Breakfast Show, leaving her emotional after her son, Woody, sent a touching tribute.

After a six-year tenure as host, the 54-year-old DJ chose to resign in order to prioritize her family. Her final show elicited numerous supportive messages from viewers.

At some point, the production team played a message from Woody, who is 24 years old and they both share him with their former partner Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, to her great surprise.

Ball broke into tears upon hearing Woody say: ‘Mum, your work on the Breakfast Show has been fantastic! I simply wanted to express my gratitude for making our mornings more enchanting. Here’s to better sleep routines. With love, Woody.’

With a quavering voice, Ball began to introduce the following tune: “Wow, this one is dedicated to all of you who have listened, those here today, and most certainly to my children. The song is called ‘Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)’, by Frank Wilson.

At the conclusion of her three-hour broadcast, Ball expressed a message encouraging women’s strength and independence to her audience.

The very first woman to lead the Radio 2 Breakfast Show expressed: ‘Keep in mind, ladies, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish.’

The first lady to anchor the Radio 2 Breakfast Show said: ‘Let me remind you, young women, that there’s no limit to what you can achieve.’

She started off her farewell note by expressing gratitude for having the opportunity to lead the program, noting that she cherished the unique bond she shared with the audience, describing it as if they were engaging in a friendly conversation with an old friend.

Ball expressed: “Performing on this show has been an incredible blessing, succeeding remarkable Terry and Chris – no small task. It’s quite a thrill to be the initial woman hosting, yet I know I won’t be the last. Always remember, ladies, you possess limitless potential.

To our beloved hosts of the Breakfast Show, who are indeed each one of our listeners – young, old, and those in between – we extend our heartfelt gratitude for joining us today. Whether you’re listening alone, as a family, with coworkers on your morning jogs or walks, driving trucks, exercising, commuting, or even hiding under the covers, it has been an honor to accompany you during your morning routines.

In my world, you’re always present, while I’m here, engaging in heartfelt conversations with an old friend. Our bond is unique, a quiet intimacy that has weathered the ups and downs of life side by side. It’s not lost on me, the privilege of sharing moments, big and small, throughout our journey together.

Smiling, she reminisced about many years filled with laughter, foolishness, minimal sadness, plenty of singing and dancing, and declared, “Scott [will take good care of you in the coming year.

In her own words, she continued: “As Paul Williams’ song says, ‘A little love returns in full, and I’ve experienced that love from all of you. I’m sending a flood of love back to you. Stay safe, dear friends, my fabulous folks.
