Kyle Sandilands strongly criticized Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr after she asserted that Kyle’s “ball drop” competition was risky.
On Friday morning, a competition related to the Kyle and Jackie O radio program, named the “$100k Ball Drop,” took place. This event involved the release of 200 balls from a helicopter above Elsternwick Park Tennis Centre in Melbourne.
As an enthusiastic participant, I joined the throng of 100 contenders, racing onto the court in hot pursuit of two balls. Each ball was tagged with a potential prize worth up to $100,000!
However, on Friday morning, as the rivalry intensified, Sandilands reprimanded Barr for her on-air comment that the stunt might have been risky.
Or:
As the competition heated up on a Friday morning, Sandilands sternly rebuked Barr for implying on air that the stunt could be hazardous.
In conversation with reporter Andrew McCormack, who was present at the time, Barr pointed out that the stunt had sparked disapproval within the local community.
She inquired from the reporter if people were concerned that the ball might strike them, pass through the ceiling, or cause some sort of trouble.

He responded, “Right over the street are numerous apartment buildings,” he said. “Apparently they switched to using foam balls.
Barr wondered if the spinning blades wouldn’t make a “whoop” sound as they caused the balls to veer from their intended paths.
‘If nothing else, it’s very interesting to watch,’ co-host Matt Shirvington added.
Following Kyle and his on-screen partner Jackie O Henderson’s appearance on Sunrise, Jackie hinted that our beloved breakfast show secretly hoped for a mishap to unfold.
She stated, “They have TV coverage for this event, but it seems they are focusing on it solely due to their desire for a catastrophe.
‘How thorough have we been with this, is my question.’
Additionally, they disputed McCormack’s assertion that a change to using foam balls was necessitated for safety reasons during his discussion segment.
Producer Bruno Boucher countered, “What they claimed was that we switched to foam balls, but that’s not true.

Kyle clarified, “It was always those soft rubber balls we were using all along,” he explained. “We weren’t dropping grenades from the helicopter, but rather those foam ones.
As they were about to lower the balls, a minor commotion occurred. When Kyle tried to move towards Cooper Johns, who was in the helicopter, the scene became somewhat exciting.
If an initial connection wasn’t possible, Kyle exclaimed in panic: ‘Sunrise was correct! This is catastrophic.’
However, it appeared that the ball drop went off without a hitch.
Jackie appeared relieved as she remarked, “As far as I can tell, there seems to be no emergency unfolding; all the tennis balls seem to have landed on the court.
At sunrise, both Sunrise itself and Andrew McCormack observed the incident, with McCormack offering a live narration.
The comments followed the news that the show received approval at the last minute to perform the stunt.
15 hours prior to its launch, as stated by The Herald Sun, the approval for the show’s promotion was given by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.

According to a representative from CASA, the application for hosting the event was granted, as the operator successfully showed they could adhere to aviation safety standards.
Additionally, the article mentioned that many residents in the area voiced concerns about the stunt to the tennis club, as they feared it could cause harm due to the numerous complaints they had lodged.
Speaking about Elsternwick, resident Lucy Ellen pointed out that it seems only a matter of time before someone files a legal claim, given the potential for damage to properties due to careless actions with balls.
‘I am majorly concerned that it might hurt an elderly person.’
