The Manners Are Fking Terrible!

Actress Miriam Margolyes has made a critique of Australia, sharing one aspect that she finds displeasing within the nation.

The well-known British actress, now 83 years old, has always cherished Australia deeply and has filmed numerous shows there. Her latest work in this regard is a 2024 documentary titled “Impossibly Australian.

For 57 years, her longtime partner, Heather Sunderland, has been by Miriam’s side, and both are proud Australian citizens now. They even own a home in the picturesque Southern Highlands.

Instead, let’s discuss how Miriam has shared her genuine views on Australia and the reasons behind her shifting loyalty towards the country in recent times.

On the Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS FM, she expressed her feelings: “I adore Australia; I believe it’s an extraordinary nation. It seems to be experiencing some turbulence lately, much like the rest of the globe.

Indeed, contrary to what you might think, I do hold Australia dear to me. In fact, I’m proudly an Australian citizen. My connection to this land isn’t just a formality; it’s a choice I made out of love, as my partner is Australian, and I longed to be more intimately linked with this beautiful country.

‘But now I think my allegiance has slipped slightly and gone to New Zealand.’

In a candid response, Miriam shared one aspect of Australia that she dislikes, humorously commenting that the manners can be quite impolite, as host Jackie “O” Henderson inquired about her thoughts on this topic.

Actress who played Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter series found herself embroiled in a political dispute when she expressed her opinions about U.S. President Donald Trump, leading to a heated exchange with radio personality Kyle Sandilands.

Responding to her remarks about New Zealand, Kyle replied: ‘It’s like Trump says about Canada.

Since New Zealand feels like an extension of Australia for me, I can certainly understand your affection for it.

Instead, Miriam expressed her strong opinions about Trump by saying, “I can’t stand discussing matters like that; it’s just like talking about lumps of rotten oranges.” This way, she conveyed her displeasure effectively while maintaining a casual and straightforward tone.

Shock jock Kyle countered with: “I see you’re not among those who fail to grasp his potential for greatness.” This version maintains the original sentiment while using more straightforward language and a slightly different structure for clarity.

‘Oh, you’ve been you’ve been twisted by the Whoopi Goldberg’s of the world. What a shame.’

To which Miriam hilariously replied: ‘I wouldn’t mind being twisted by Whoopi Goldberg!’

Additionally in the interview, Miriam shared an uncommon perspective about her long-lasting, 57-year partnership with her historian companion Heather, a person she usually manages to keep private.

Kyle inquired from Miriam about the key to maintaining a relationship for a long time and wondered how they manage to avoid feelings of boredom or fatigue towards one another.

In a different turn of phrase, the star from Call the Midwife explained that they maintain their romantic connection by not residing together. Instead, they regularly converse over the phone each day.

She continued, “I believe it’s important to be honest and trustworthy, not merely self-serving.

It strikes me that you should focus more on the individual. Over a shared journey through life, it becomes increasingly apparent what a fortunate find they are. Truly, I cannot help but appreciate them deeply.

In 2013, I proudly welcomed Australian citizenship into my life, and since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to share a beautiful holiday home in the Southern Highlands with a dear friend named Heather. This lovely abode, affectionately known as Yarrawa Hill, is ours to cherish, but when we’re not there, we open its doors to others who seek a tranquil escape.

Miriam and Heather often visit each other’s homes in Italy, London, Tuscany, and Australia, meeting approximately eight times per year.

In the year 1967, the couple crossed paths for the first time when they were both involved in a BBC radio play production, following Miriam’s completion of her academic journey at the University of Cambridge.

Since then, they’ve been a pair, and in her 2021 autobiography, “This Much Is True,” Miriam expressed her admiration for their collaboration.

‘We have been together for 53 years. It is a big achievement,’ she penned at the time.

Heather, on the other hand, is my complete opposite. She’s more introverted, extremely private, and prefers to keep things to herself rather than being open and outgoing like me.

Heather hails from Australia, previously holding a professorship position at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, which is located in the Netherlands.
