Future of Noel Fielding’s Dick Turpin Series Revealed Amid Health Fears
It’s said that the series “The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin,” starring Noel Fielding, might make a comeback on our TV screens, surprisingly, given it was halted during filming because of concerns about the actor’s unexpected health issues.
Following the success of the initial series that he both wrote and acted in, production for a new season wrapped up towards the close of last year.
However, upon resumption of filming post-Christmas holidays, they were informed that the production had been canceled, with only a quarter of the shooting left to complete.
Recently, there have been rumors suggesting that the executives at Apple TV+ might be planning a one-hour special, aiming to utilize footage that’s already been captured. If everything goes as planned, this special could potentially make its debut around Halloween.
According to a source, the situation is being viewed as more of a recovery effort, but it remains uncertain if there’s enough to work with.
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but feel a pang of sorrow knowing that the visionaries behind this marvel invested millions of dollars, only for approximately 70-80% of it to be brought to life on screen before the cruel chop came down.
Now, it would certainly feel frustrating if all their efforts turned out to be for nothing. It’s uncertain if any parts they shot featured the reported guest stars such as Jason Isaacs, Dawn French, and Miranda Richardson.
TopMob has contacted representatives for Noel Fielding and Apple TV+ for comment.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Noel failed to appear for the Dick Turpin filming following the Christmas break, even though more than half of the series had already been completed.
According to sources close to Dick Turpin, the actor playing the main role of the famous highwayman had conflicts with the scheduled and re-scheduled filming dates.
Cast and crew were told this week it has been scrapped due to ‘the illness of a key cast member’.
As a devoted follower speaking on behalf of Noel, I wish to convey that the matter pertaining to our client’s health is a personal and confidential one.
‘Although it’s disappointing, we’ve decided to stop producing. I’m afraid I can’t provide any more details about this situation at the moment.’
It is understood that the presenter is recuperating in France.
According to a reliable insider, Noel himself stated that he cannot continue filming, which led to the decision to halt production on the show.
They didn’t arrive at this serious outcome carelessly, as they had thoroughly explored all viable options beforehand.
There’s a lot of worry for Noel’s health and everyone has granted him the time he needs to heal, however, this situation has also brought about substantial consequences. Some individuals are quite angry about it.
There are reports suggesting that the actors and team behind the series might be taking legal action against its producers, as the show has been canceled.
According to The Sun, over 100 individuals are contemplating filing a collective lawsuit against the producers of Apple TV+’s comedy series.
It’s suggested that since Noel, who portrays Turpin, is also a co-writer and executive producer, there’s a high chance he could face legal action as well.
It’s exceptionally rare for a show to be canceled mid-production, and the circumstances surrounding this decision remain unclear, causing uncertainty among producers of other projects associated with him. This situation has them feeling quite apprehensive.
‘Plus he’ll have to contend with any legal action. It will be a difficult few months for him.’
In this humorous TV show, we see the character portrayed by Noel as the notorious highwayman who was alive from 1705 to 1739. However, the storyline presents an imaginative interpretation of his real-life experiences.
Accompanied by his band of charming misfits, Richard navigates both the thrilling peaks and disheartening valleys of fame, constantly striving to shake off the grasp of the Chief Thief-Taker.
Claire Downes, Stuart Lane, and Ian Jarvis from The Outlaws and The Job Lot team are the writers and creators of it, while Noel and Jeremy Dyson from The League of Gentlemen serve as script advisers.
Love Productions, creators of The Great British Bake Off set to start filming a new season in April, are reportedly worried about the potential absence of host Noel Fielding and have been preparing alternative strategies, should he be unable to participate in the series as well.
A source revealed that everyone at Love Productions was understandably concerned upon hearing about Noel’s illness, and they are prepared to offer all the help they can to assist him.
‘Though the final decision isn’t made yet, they’re readying themselves for all scenarios. If Noel can’t carry on as the host for series 16, they already have contingency plans.’
